Wittenberg / Talossan Embassy in Ohio
January 05, 2024, 07:36:36 PM
I'm not sure where I should post this, but...
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bdr_cV2MtwmFnrWX1Pa7fEizKVFnxHPQ17IOJgl1A4E/edit
This is our application for establishing a Talossan Embassy in Ohio. Longstanding Talossan citizen and previous Benitian Maestro Vitxalmour Conductour has recently become owner of a business in our small town, and we are enthusiastic about promoting Talossa within it. We have a Talossan flag ready to hang up in the premises, and are in current talks of printing out Talossan promotional flyers to leave near the cash register. From these efforts, we hope to build a solid Talossan community in our area (and hopefully get some more members involved in our local Cjovani subculture.)

Quote from: Bentxamì Puntmasleu on January 02, 2024, 05:53:43 PMI started reading a book called John Dies at the End. It's all right. Has anyone read that?

It is excellent, though the first part really does show as having been cobbled together from blog posts. There's even a film. The sequels are also worth reading though IMHO inferior. You should delve into Jason Pargin aka David Wong's wider body of work.
My nephew bought it for me years ago. I recall really liking it, and enjoyed the movie too. (If I'm remembering correctly, it was a Don Coscarelli movie (the guy behind the Phantasm series and Bubba Ho-Tep.) Well, he bought me the first sequel recently, haven't read it yet. It's been so long since I read the first one and saw the movie that I actually don't remember much about it now!
(Lol, I just watched the trailer Miestra posted the link to..."from the guy who brought you Phantasm and Bubba Ho-Tep"...)

Not really. Are there any other Benitians wanting to weigh in?

I would happily restart work on the New Talossan History Project if anyone were interested in it. Ditto for the SubGenius stuff, especially if @Iason is still keen fnord.
Praise "Bob"! I'm keen. (I'm a little angry that I never got to attend an X-Day while it was still in Ohio! They moved it to Florida.)
The Talossan Society of Speculative Brewers should be considered defunct.(Tho it never really was funct to begin with.) (It was supposed to be a parody of Freemasonry using beer brewing symbolism.)

I vote per on RZ1.
(Do I have to do a Vote of Confidence? If so, I guess I vote Üc.)

Quote from: Iason Taiwos on November 08, 2023, 04:34:54 PMThis may turn out to be one of those crazy ideas that never comes to fruition, but... I enlisted the aid of Vitxalmour Conductour to help find a landmark for Benito. In our researches, we discovered that there seems to be a lot of neat things in Milwaukee. This turned to talk of making a road trip there in the near future, which seems entirely plausible at the moment. (Well, why not? We've both been Talossans for over ten years, and Milwaukee isn't really too far away.) Along with this came the idea of filming the entire thing, making a sort of documentary of our journey. Visiting Talossan historical sites, and maybe meeting up with whatever citizens currently live in or around there. I think it's a good plan. Well, we'll see what happens. This trip is currently tentatively planned for sometime next year. (Knowing my luck, tho, something bad will happen, and the money I've put aside for such a trip will go to unexpected car or house repairs. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed!)

That's great to hear. From what I understand (I might be incorrect), I am the current the only active citizen residing in the GTA but I am going to try to recruit a couple others in the coming year. In any case, let me know if and when your plans develop further. There is indeed a lot of interesting things to see in Milwaukee (including, of course, in the Talossan realm). Some of them are rather hidden gems. I would be more than happy to suggest things to  do and see, etc.
Your input is very welcome. Yeah, I'll let you know what our plans are. (At this stage, it's just in the discussion phase. We both work full time jobs, and our days off don't always align, but we are both currently enthused about the whole idea.) (Any tips on good restaurants? We like to eat!)

Cjartzara and Cjarföglha are super cool. So, too, is Cjovania?
I appreciate the suggestion, but Cjovani "culture" is too weird to impose on an entire province. (Plus, we are just too Ohio-centric.)

I wish the Bronze Fonz was in Benito! I actually got to meet the real Fonz at a comic book convention a few years back. He was, you could say...cool...

Here's an idea I just had that should not be seriously considered (probably):
I went thru all the words beginning with Be, and Lüc's ideas for that are better than anything I came up with. Then, I thought, well, I'll look up famous people from Milwaukee, keeping with the trend of our province being named after a person. Went to Wikipedia, "list of famous people from Milwaukee", and one immediately jumped out at me...Liberace!The flamboyant gay piano virtuoso. (Of whom it is said, he never came out of the closet because he was too busy wearing it.) How much further can you disassociate yourself from a fascistic past than by naming your province after Liberace? We could call it... Liberacia. Got the "liberty" part in it. And like our province, Liberace was half Italian. Only problems are, he wasn't from the Benito area (he was born and lived a few miles west of Benito), and also...doesn't start with Be.
Other (lame) ideas, none starting with Be... Cjartzara, "Oakland", for the name of the street that runs right thru the middle of our province. (Being a Cjovani, I like the Cj beginning of that one.) Cjarföglha (look, another one), "Oakleaf". There's another street in Benito by that name. Then I thought, why not just Riverside? That's an important name in Talossan history (Riverside High School) (isn't it also our province's capital?) But that would be something like Fiovasida, and we already have a Fiova. (I know, all bad ideas. Hey, I'm trying.)

This is a great source for extremely hard to find (public domain) comics.

According to the Tasting Table, Oatly is apparently good, they named it their #1 pick in a review of 11 oat milk brands... (the stuff I usually get, Planet Oat, didn't fare so well...)

Wittenberg / Talossa mentioned in Ohio paper

An interesting article I discovered that mentions Talossa. (Cleveland Scene is a free weekly newspaper from Cleveland (duh). I imagine this article saw print in it at one time. (Tracking down a copy for the Talossan Archives might be difficult, people tend not to hang on to these things.))
