Wittenberg / No La S'chinteia in July
July 01, 2020, 06:30:18 PM
Between the holiday coming up, an internship I started last week, and two big exams this summer, it is not really feasible for me to put out La S'chinteia this month. It should be back in August though.

Wittenberg / Citizenship Petition for Nick K.
May 27, 2020, 01:56:37 PM
WHEREAS it has been more than a fortnight since Nick K. first posted on Wittenberg, following his introduction to the citizens of the Kingdom by officers of the Interior Ministry, and

WHEREAS he has in that time demonstrated an active, genuine, and longstanding interest in Talossan life, culture, and language, and

WHEREAS he desires citizenship in the Kingdom of Talossa, and

WHEREAS by all indications it appears that he would be a loyal and dedicated citizen, and a credit to this nation if he obtains the grant of citizenship he requests, and

WHEREAS I have corresponded with him on lichess.org,

THEREFORE I, Ian Plätschisch, a citizen in good standing of the Province of Maritiimi-Maxhestic and of the Kingdom of Talossa, do by these presents petition the Secretary of State Glüc da Dhi to issue a grant of citizenship to Nick K., as specified by law.

Petition submitted today, 27th day of May, 2020/XL.

Wittenberg / La S'chinteia Still Needs More Writers
April 22, 2020, 02:06:17 PM
If you are, for whatever reason, finding yourself with more time on your hands than usual, why not write for La S'chinteia? It's tough out there for magazines with one regular contributor. Articles can be about pretty much anything, Talossa-related or not.

Azul,

It's been suggested that I offer some kind of math course here, and maybe I will. First I would need to know if people are interested at all, and what they are interested in.

Maritiimi-Maxhestic / Merging With Vuode Poll
March 01, 2020, 12:32:15 PM
As I've pointed out elsewhere, MM and Vuode are Talossa's two least populous provinces. If a merger can happen anywhere, it's going to happen here.

Wittenberg / A Citizen's Proposal of Honors
January 06, 2020, 01:54:02 PM
I occasionally have email correspondence with citizen J.K. Kelley, who, coincidentally, is an active member on the coin forum on which I advertised our five louis coins and kindly vouched that it was legit. I recently received this message from him and he asked that I post it.

***

QuoteHow many Talossans have received orders of knighthood? According to the wiki, the number is twelve for the Order of the Nation. The text:

QuoteThe Crown recognises worthy citizens, offering them admission into the order for long and dedicated service to the nation, or for particular acts of valour in the defence of the realm.

I submit that Royal Archivist @GV is extraordinarily deserving of this honor. So much so in fact that, if he doesn't qualify for it, I can't think of who might.

For years, and with only modest assistance, GV been gathering up every Talossan archive he could find, putting them into some semblance of order, and making the information available to all. You probably saw his recent publication of the texts of the Big History and Ar Pats, complete with Talossan name repair so as to protect the public anonymity of those who might desire it. I'm a professional editor, and I can tell you that this must have required enormous amounts of work and dedication. You certainly didn't see me stepping up to do any of it.

He has done this work without embroilment in the political mudflinging that so pollutes the Talossan political environment, for no compensation, on his own time and initiative. Without his efforts, much would have been lost or mislaid, and far less would likely be available to the public. That meets any rational standard for dedicated service. As for length of service, he showed up not long after my original involvement in Talossa. How long ago? He first appears on the scene, according to Ar Pats which he just republished, in 2002.

He's been at this for seventeen years. That's almost long enough for a Dandelion to be born, grow up, and attain adult citizenship. That's "long" by any reasonable definition of the term. All this time, he has done his best for reconciliation, historical preservation, and cultural progress. So far as I'm aware, he doesn't have an enemy in Talossa. I am confident that you, and a majority of any segment of the population one might select, would agree that GV has been one of the best things ever to happen to the Kingdom, the Republic, and again the Kingdom. I have a difficult time imagining any grounds on which even a small minority could dissent from that statement.

WHEREAS Interest in Talossa is not hereditary, and

WHEREAS The best person to become the next Monarch is usually not going to be the child of the previous one

THEREFORE Article II of the Organic Law is repealed and replaced with the following:

Section 1
QuoteThe Kingdom of Talossa is a constitutional Monarchy with a King (or, if female, Queen) as its head of State.

Section 2
QuoteThe King is the symbolic head of the nation. The nation democratically grants the King certain Royal Powers and duties as described in this Organic Law and in statute law. The Ziu may establish procedures for when the King fails to perform a duty.

Section 3
QuoteThe King of Talossa is King John I, until his demise, abdication, or removal from the throne. Should the King at any time renounce or lose his citizenship, that renunciation or loss shall be deemed to imply his abdication of the Throne. Upon the demise, abdication, or removal from the Throne of the King, the Uppermost Cort shall be a Council of Regency.

Section 4
QuoteIn dire circumstances, when the King is judged by competent medical authority to be incapable of executing his duties, or if he is convicted by the Talossan Uppermost Cort of violation of this Organic Law, treason, bribery, nonfeasance endangering the safety, order or good government of the Kingdom, or other high crimes, the nation may remove the King from the Throne. The Cosa shall pronounce by a two-thirds vote, with the approval of the Senäts, that the King is to be removed, and this pronouncement shall immediately be transmitted to the people for their verdict in a referendum. If a two-thirds majority of the people concur, the King is removed.

Section 5
QuoteThe King may, at whim, appoint, replace, or remove a Regent (or a Council of Regency, which is considered equivalent to a Regent), who shall administer the government in the name of the King, and exercise all powers Organically or legally vested in the King, except the power to appoint or replace a Regent. No person not a citizen of Talossa shall be competent to serve as Regent or member of a Council of Regency. The Ziu may by law remove or replace any appointed Regent, and if the Ziu removes a Regent appointed by the King, the King may not reappoint the same person Regent without the prior consent of the Ziu.

Section 6
QuoteThe King may grant titles of nobility and confer awards and decorations.
