Quote from: Sir Txec dal Nordselvă, UrB on June 15, 2024, 08:26:03 PMUnfortunately if this was not posted in the official thread and/or I wasn't tagged, I likely missed it.

Clearly it would have been better if the Progressives had more actively communicated the update, but I'm assuming since it was posted in the official thread before the deadline, the updated list is still legally valid?

I can't really tell you what to do, but personally I really hope that if you do decide to withdraw from politics, you don't withdraw from the nation as a whole. You are highly valued as a member of the community, regardless of your politics.

On the assignment reform thing: again, why?

Every time we disturb catchment areas we are preventing any sort of unique provincial identity based on geography, which already takes years, if not decades, to build anyway.

Even worse if the idea is to make all provinces equally balanced in 'american'/'rest of the world', making provinces more similar than they already are.

Is this something the FreeDems truly believe is a good idea or just a concession to the pdr?

I hereby claim a seat.

Many thanks to þerxh and xpb for getting us to this point!

Quote from: xpb on May 05, 2024, 05:01:21 PMI vote PER but is there any question that this might need be referred to the entire populace ?  That could be done at the next elections, where simultaneously all candidates would be elected to l'Etats

Yes, since this is a constitutional amendment it does need to be a approved in a referendum (and be passed by a 2/3rd majority of l'Etats).

RZ20 - PER, but of course only after the appropriate amount of pillorying @Sir Lüc for copying the UK again when we do not, and should not, follow the westminster model. (Although tbh I don't really mind the commissioner thing.)

RZ21 - PER

RZ22 - PER, with sincere compliments for those involved. This is a good compromise and for @Miestră Schivă, UrN and @Baron Alexandreu Davinescu to work together on this is nothing short of historic. (Even if I have my usual sense of unease about hammering out major constitutional reform in less than a month, but I do think the result looks pretty solid.)

Quote from: Mic'haglh Autófil, SMC EiP on April 28, 2024, 02:38:19 PMThe intent was to also rebalance catchment areas elsewhere, which would likely result (should result) in VD's catchment area gaining nations (and thus potential immigrants). This is just step one of that process.
Ok, but why?

I understand catchment areas need to be balanced on a global scale. I don't understand why they would need to be balanced for any one specific country, as long as there is still balance overall. If anything I think the differing catchment areas is part of what makes provinces have their own unique identity. Giving all provinces an equal share of us catchment area would just make provinces more the same.

In the case of Cézembre, it being the only European province is a big part of our history. It makes sense to combine that with a relatively large European catchment area even if that means not having much catchment area elsewhere.

I suppose my main thought is why do we need provinces to have an equal number of states as catchment area? Catchment areas don't have an equal number of Brazilian provinces or Swiss cantons, so why do they need an equal share of the US?

For example, Cézembre, which is famously Talossa's european province, has a lot of catchment area in Europe. I don't think we really need additional catchment area in America. On the other hand, Vuode is already the province with the fewest citizens. If we give away some of the most populous states in its catchment area to another province which also has a lot of catchment area elsewhere (Benito) we might as well disband it now.

Either way the point seems moot because it appears the Ziu is coming to a consensus about a solution that's also perfectly acceptable so Im not gonna bother any further with this. Still thought it was a nice idea.
