Wittenberg / Re: No political arguments = Happier Talossa?

Disclaimer: Sondra Lomaira and Sarac'h Txilvertescu both later turned out to be ESB sockpuppets, which puts the things they are saying in a rather different perspective

Wittenberg / No political arguments = Happier Talossa?
September 17, 2020, 02:04:07 PM
Reading through old threads is something that all Talossans should do frequently (although please avoid the many threads where I say stupid things I now regret).

https://talossa.proboards.com/thread/7972/petition-happier-kingdom

To clarify: I'm not endorsing the original post.  I think political attacks are part of a democracy, and are fine, as long as people play the ball and not the person. I just think the thread is a very interesting read, for various reasons.

So if no-one has any objections, the Government is seriously considering making the current version of the project Required Reading for all new citizens. Thoughts?
I feel the current version is still pretty one-sided, especially post-2005

If you have any questions about anything and want to ask someone with a lot of info, a good memory, a level head, and no partisan affiliations, I recommend Gluc da Dhi, who posted earlier.  He's pretty universally respected and just stepped down from arguably the most important job in the country (Secretary of State).

Eeh, thanks, but I'm not without political biases myself, even if I'm not affiliated with any party. These probably will show more too, now that I'm no longer SoS.

(Not trying to discourage anyone from asking questions obviously, just a disclaimer...)

Fwiw, we do have a non-partisan, non-political, cultural event going on, which has now become a tradition that has lasted for 11 years and now almost 9 editions.

It happens to involve two things that imho are most enjoyable: listening to music and making lists. I'll admit that not everyone might get as excited about these things, but for those that are:

More than any other political party in the past five-to-ten years, the Free Democrats are actually doing something.  We have revolutionized governance and put into action an agenda for the future.  For more information: https://freedemstalossa.wordpress.com/

That's mostly just empty phrasing. Last ten years? I doubt it. A lot of things happened 5-10 years ago, the creation of the wiki, creation of Talossa.com codifying of our law. More recently? Probably true, but then there aren't many large or active parties left these days.

True, a lot of energy has been spent on legislation and institutional reforms, but how much of that has translated into actual activity? (Other than the efforts made to implement it all, often by people outside the FreeDems, and to fix the various holes and problems already arising from flawed bills that were passed with not enough discussion).

Edit: forgot to add the word now in bold, which changes the meaning...

Well, strictly speaking the provincial executive appoints a replacement senators. The King only comes in when the provincial executive fails to do so (but in that case its often questionable whether the province would be able to hold an election).

Also, many provinces still leave their senatorial elections up to the chancery (which considering the current state of provincial senate elections is probably a good thing).

Cézembre / Re: Sénéchal election

Well there was some sort of election last year in which we elected Dame Litz Cjantscheir. Sadly, she has been unavailable as well.

I guess I can run the election if needed, but either Dame Litz or Sir Cresti would have to appoint me to do so.

My etats calculator sheet comes up with the following division of seats:

FreeDems - 4
LCC - 4
Balance - 4
LA CORAZIUN SîNGICîNDS - 2 (presumably these will remain vacant, because I dont think anyone has a claim to this party)
Ian Txaglh - 2
Txosuè Rôibeardescù - 2

Party leaders, please assign/claim your seats

Wittenberg / Re: Resignation as Secretary of State

And with those latest announcement my job regarding the election is done and my resignation is now final.

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments, here and elsewhere. Also thanks again the mpf for his help.

The chancery email will still be accessed by me for a couple days. There are some things that I need to sort out. After that I will transfer it to my succesor, Txec dal Nordselvă (probably early next week). For any chancery business, he is now the person to go to. Hopefully His Majesty will see fit to make the formal appointment soon as well.
