Quote from: Tric'hard Lenxheir on May 07, 2023, 07:16:34 PMFunny thing is the words you guys are using aren't even what is on L'Oversteir. On there "dead" is either "moart" or "mortescu" and "last" is "lastar" "dirnalaiset" or "lasteu" you did use "dirnalaiset" for last

You have to be careful when translating fixed expressions. Sometimes it works, but more often than not (like with "dead last") it doesn't, and you have to use something else. That's why we didn't translate the "dead" part literally.

Quote from: Miestră Schivă, UrN on May 07, 2023, 05:06:42 PMSo, Ben Dirnalaiset in this case? That could even be someone's name

That specifically sounds like a parody on Ben's regal name Ben Pirmalaiset. Which is hilarious, but I don't know if it's a desired effect.

This is actually really tricky, because the phrase "dead last" doesn't exist outside of English, so it's difficult to translate. Until others would like to chime in, the best I can offer would be to translate "last place" instead, which would be something like Dirnalaiset Pläts (DEER-nah-lie-suht PLATS) I guess.

On my end, HTTPS talossa com redirects to the weird site, while plain HTTP doesn't.

Quote from: Viteu on April 28, 2023, 08:25:34 AMBut there is jurisprudence constante.
Which isn't binding, so it's nowhere near as important.

QuoteI WILL SCREAM THIS FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK--IF YOUR LEGISLATURE CAN ABOLISH YOUR HIGHEST COURT AT THE WHIM OF A SIMPLE MAJORITY, YOU DO NOT HAVE AN INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY.
Well I don't know how the UK handles this, but in countries with constitutions the highest court is usually outlined in the constitution, so abolishing it takes more than a simple majority.

I don't know how that's relevant to the topic though. The legislature still has the (exclusive!) power to change civil and criminal procedure codes as it sees fit, just like with all other laws.

QuoteAlso, the separation of powers is rooted in civil law. I don't know why you lot cannot grasp that the civil law-common law question is just an excuse to not bothering to read the Org Law or understand it.
Separation of powers doesn't mean that the courts are above the law, or that the legislature mustn't make laws legislating court procedures. Again how is this relevant?

Quote from: Viteu on April 27, 2023, 10:18:07 PMOr am I mistaken and civil law countries don't have constitutions, there is no separation of powers but rather fusion of powers, and that the court systems are not independent and can be controlled by the whims of the legislature?

[...]

Whether Talossa should adopt a civil law system is not at all relevant to the question of to what extent, if any, the Ziu can regulate the Uppermost Cort.

Courts are bound by the rule of law like everyone else, and in civil law systems, laws are made by the legislature and only the legislature (there is no stare decisis), thus the laws governing court procedures are necessarily also made by the legislature. Does that constitute a violation of judicial independence in your opinion?

Quote from: þerxh Sant-Enogat on April 25, 2023, 11:21:20 AMHello, I have asked to ChatGPT to speak Talossan.. I am not really sure of the correctness of the use of "el glheþ" !! Do you know what ChatGPT uses as a proxy ?

Q: Can you explain in talossan what is talossa ?

That looks like a mixture of Catalan and Interlingua. It's absolutely not correct Talossan.

Thanks for the shoutout!

EDIT: By the way, I did import the cards into Tabletop Simulator. If anyone else has it, we could play a game with the cards online.

You cannot view this attachment. is my best attempt at translating the constellations into Talossan. Constellations marked in yellow are part of the zodiac.

Judging by how other Romance languages deal with them at a first glance, you could either use the Latin names for constellations or translate the meanings. So Pisces would either just be Pisces or els Peschti. Personally I would prefer the latter method but either works really.

EDIT: I might compile a list of all 88 constellations and what their translated Talossan names would be. We'll see.

For your information, Miestră Schivă is not the Túischac'h.

Estimat Túischac'h, if it is possible I would like to add some context to the topic of talossan.com.

The main issue with the site is not primarily who does or doesn't run it, but rather that its contents have been incorrect and/or out of date for almost 10 years. Far from being an "invaluable resource to scholars from all around the globe" as the Minister puts it in his Delegation of Website administration notice an hour ago from the time I write this, the website has been a source of misunderstanding and confusion for new learners for ages, and as time moves on and the language changes and matures, this descrepancy will only widen. I personally remember how frustrating it was to find out that things I thought I knew about Talossan, all of which I had learnt from talossan.com, turned out to be either incomplete, out of date or straight-up false, which required me to relearn it multiple times over.

There have been attempts to modernise its contents by myself, though last time I checked there were technical limitations that made any significant progress impossible, specifically how the letter Ă could not be rendered correctly. I don't know if the problem persists.

What can or will the Minister do to ensure that the contents of the website are factual and useful for learners and scholars, living up to the tagline that he gave it in the Delegation of Website administration notice today?

Quote from: Audrada Roibeardet on April 13, 2023, 03:23:02 PMGreat minds think alike, I had a similar idea awhile back. Except, I was planning to design a 40 card deck instead of the more standard 52 card deck. Thought Talossa could go it's own way with playing cards.

I figured it was easier to shorten a long deck than it is to extend a short deck, and with 52 cards you have the flexibility to play most games.

I'd like to add that a 52 card deck isn't that standard where I'm from! Most decks I've seen are 32 cards, that is pre-shortened for games like Skat.

Quote from: Carlüs Éovart Vilaçafat on April 13, 2023, 10:52:03 AMDid you leave the Ace and 2 of bents as outlines on purpose, instead of filling them with black like the rest of that suit?

Yes I did, originally I had planned to have them all be outlines but I quickly realised that this wouldn't work.
