How many people would be interested if I set up a Fantasy Tour de France league? The race starts July 1st.
Don't worry if you don't know anything about cycling. I did ok in the tfl and I don't even know the basic rules of American Football, so I suspect thats possible here too.
There appear to be multiple providers (scorito, velogames, the official one) so that may take some figuring out though. I really like to get an idea of how many would be participating before setting it up

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Go to velogames.com First you have to create an account which you can do by clicking log in and then click here to register
2. Once you are logged in go here: https://www.velogames.com/velogame/2022/entryform.php to enter your team.
*This can still be changed after! so don't worry about filling something in and fixing it later (until July 1st).
*You can find details on the scoring here: https://www.velogames.com/velogame/2022/scores.php (Note that beside the obvious points for individual classification/stage results you can also get points if teammates of your riders to well)
* This: https://www.velogames.com/velogame/2022/riders.php gives a better view of the cost (points) per rider which makes it easier to stay below the required 100 points.
(NB, I don't know most of these people either. There should be various sites that give some more detail about who is expected to well, but I suppose generally the points should relatively accurately describe the value as well, so please dont be deterred if you dont follow cycling)
3. After you set up your team you can go to your team page (visit team) and under team management there should be a button called join league. There you can join the Talossan Cycling Association Tour by entering the following league code: 724966633
That is basically it for now. There may be some option of making transfers later for a secondary competition called Stage Hunter Leaderboard, but you dont need to worry about that yet (and it wont affect the main competition)
The deadline for entering/changing your team is July 1st!
I'd be happy to take part :)
I'd be interested as well. I have a good friend who is really into the Tour de France, and his enthusiasm lead me to check it out last year. It was kind of entertaining. (This fantasy league could be sponsored by the Talossan Cycling Association.)
So there may be a couple of options for doing this. Sadly, several of the option have very disappointing mechanics, cost money, are terribly complicated (official tissot game mercato edition) or give some pretty significant benefits based on credits (official tissot game), so my suggestion is we go with velogames.
There are a couple of downsides to this:
1. You can only join the Talossa minileague after youve already made your team (though I think changes are still possible)
2. The main ranking doesnt require any input after July 1st, so most of the tour will just be waiting for the results rather than doing anything (though I think there is some sort of side competition for which you can make transfers during the tour itself).
3. Multiple teams within the league can have the same rider on their roster, which isnt really realistic if this is supposed to be a fantasy tour,
but
* Its free
* Its not too much work or too complicated
* The scoring system itself is pretty advanced.
Ok, I've set up the league. Everyone is welcome to participate.

The deadline for entering/changing your team is July 1st!
Feel free to join, even if you don't plan on following the tour de france. I will try to give updates here about the standings if we have enough Talossan teams participating.
Three teams registered so far.
Join in everyone! It's not that much work. Just make sure you use all your 100 points on your team in order to have the best odds to be competitive (the values have been assigned for a reason) and you dont need to have prior knowledge of the riders to participate. I will keep you all posted on the results.
Deadline for entering or changing your team is July 1st!
I'm in. Kinetic Racing is ready to roll...I think. ;D
Good luck to all the teams.
Reminder to everyone that today is the last day to submit or change your team (the official deadline is tomorrow 15:45 CEST, which is early morning in the GTA)!
(As it stands, there are four teams registered. I can't actually see the picks of the other teams, but apparently I can see Naziun Cjovani
@Iason Taiwos only used 80/100 points. Generally I suspect riders that are valued higher will also do better on average. Not that it is any of my business, maybe there is some grand strategy behind these picks?)
Either way, I'm looking forward to the teams reveal tomorrow...
Haha, no grand strategy, just picked the few names I recognized from hearing my friend talk about it. (But I did switch out one guy, so I've used 96 points now.)
Entries have closed.
Four teams will participate.
So velogames has introduced their secondary contest thing: the stage hunter competition. The full rules are somewhere in here: https://www.velogames.com/velogame/2022/rules.php, but basically each team gets to make 9 transfers during the tour which then leads to a separate team, with potentially different riders for different stages (for example, I could choose to shift points from sprinters to climbers when we get to the mountain section of the tour), resulting in a separate ranking.
THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THE MAIN "CLASSIC" COMPETITION.
Either way, this is fully optional. I might play around with it myself (though probably only once we get to the mountain stages, cause why change a winning team), the other teams can do as they like. Maybe I'll provide a couple updates on this separate ranking, but the main commentary in the other thread will remain focused on the regular competition.
Btw, if anyone is thinking of making transfers for the stage hunter competition, wikipedia has a very quick overview of the kind of stages we're getting in what order, which could be useful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Tour_de_France#Route_and_stages
Also, good to note that daily classification standings and team points do count for the stagehunter thing, but ONLY for the riders in your original team, so by making any transfers you forego on any daily classification points these riders may score. Also, final end of tour classifications dont count.
I'm having a hard time getting my head round this. If I make a transfer for the Stagehunter, the rider I transfer doesn't score any points in the tour? I've read the rules and I'm still confused.

Honestly, Im a bit confused as well, it all feels rather experimental tbh, but the way I understand it there are two very separate competitions, just with the same starting point (the original team).
Basically, this addition creates two different universes, which diverge after stage 3:
One in which teams stay the same (classic)
One in which teams can change (stagehunter)
So transfers affect the stagehunter contest but not the original one and only affect the stagehunter score in the stages following the transfer (with the additional caveat that riders in the original team that are not transferred also score team/daily classification points for the stagehunter contest and riders added to the team don't, so sticking with the original team gives a small bonus that can only be overcome if the new riders do significantly better than the original team.)
That's how I understand it anyway.
As far as I'm concerned the "classic" contest is still the main event (which is also the Talossan Cycling Association Tour), partly because it conceptually makes more sense and partly because not everyone might want to engage in the stagehunter thing. The stagehunter thing is just a nice extra that you can participate in if you want (I will probably have a go, but I will save my transfers until we get to the mountain stages, because my team is doing fine on the flat stages).
Does that help? If not I apologise.
As long as Stagehunter doesn't impact my Tour standings, I'll give it a go as well. Looks like I'll be doing some recon today. ;D
