Welcome to the voting thread of the 2022 TMT Special Edition!
There are 6 categories
There will be 25 nominations in each category.
These will first be divided into 5 groups.
In every group the two winners will go to the final.
The finals will all be held at the same time (at the end of the group voting for all categories).
VOTING POSTPONED BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS BROKENVOTING MAY NOW COMMENCE
Round 1 of the Talossan Music Top Classical music to have dinner to in the last day of Earth - 2022!
Many thanks to everyone who nominated songs. Of course people who did not so are still very welcome to participate
Before we start, a quick note on tactical voting
Tactical voting in this case refers to either giving more points than you would normally have to a song because it would make the difference between going through or getting eliminated OR giving fewer points than you would normally have to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be: do not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.
So now to the fun part:
ROUND 1: Five groups total. Two groups simultaneously. 5 songs per group. Best 2 go through to the final.
GIVE 3,2,1 points!
Voting will take 96 hours (4 days). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.
You must give points to no more or no fewer than 3 songs per group.
You may vote on one or both groups.

I do my best with all the links but there's always a chance some are broken or a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread.

Something is going wrong with the above post. A whole group is missing even though it is in the text if I try to modify it...
Videos group 1:

Argh, its like the board is actively trying to troll me. Everytime I try to modify the post all the class=link bits disappear and it shows everything as videos, and then when I restore it it removes one group.
Videos group 2:

It keeps getting worse. I hate this
I give up. Im going to sleep. The pieces it currently lists arent even supposed to be in one group. Voting is postponed until this is fixed.
Ok, I posted the descriptions as plain text and the videos in the two posts after.
Voting may now commence
GIVE 3,2,1 points in each group
Voting will take 96 hours (4 days).

2 Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 Second Movement (Israel Philharmonic, Zubin Mehta)
1 Glenn Gould-Beethoven, Sonata For Piano And Cello (A Maj): I Allegro Ma Non Tanto
"Fanfare for the Common Man" is a splendid - and deep - work whose content overwhelms its title... except that the title itself elevates the common man to his greater level.
Barber's Adagio - if performed well, and not with soupy over-sentimentality - can elicit real tears.
I play "Nimrod" on the organ at church, from time to time. It's not really great music, but not bad. I was very tempted to choose the Veneziano instead, but stuck with the piece I know better (not necessarily the right way to make a decision!)
The second group are all good - apart from putting the Bach first (well, I would, wouldn't I!) the other pieces are all of equally high quality.

Group 3: strong group as it contains probably my two favourite bits of classical music, and the one pointer is amazing too
3rd Piano Concerto, 1st mov - 3
Lacrimosa - 2
Pachelbel's Canon - 1
Group 4:
Kommt ihr Töchter - 3
Concerto for Guitar and Violin, Allegro - 2

Group 4
3 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - A Little Night Music Serenade No. 13 in G Major
2 - Johann Sebastian Bach - Kommt, ihr Töchter (Matthäus Passion)
1 - Enrique Mora - Alejandra
Tough choices. I don't think either group is stacked but I still struggled to rank songs.
GROUP 3
3. Lacrimosa (Requiem)
2. La Fiesta Mexicana - This gets bonus points because it's an original composition for wind orchestra, which is usually barely acknowledged as being classical music.
1. 3rd Piano Concerto, 1st movement
Re. Canon in D, I feel like I'm biased against it because of the specific version that was nominated. Of course, we are voting on author and title, not the performer. Regardless, a fun piece. Fur Elise is also a classic that I simply don't have enough points left to give to.
GROUP 4
3. Concerto for Guitar & Violin in A Major: I. Allegro
2. A Little Night Music Serenade No. 13 in G Major
1. Sobre las olas - bonus points to mexican Strauss :p

In the case of Eurovision, it may be the case that all stage performances are geoblocked for Americans. If that is the case and you find a way around it, like an alternative video site that does have the stage performance please let us know. Of course just looking up the official video of a song on youtube is fine, but the real Eurovision experience comes from the stage performances rather than the official video.
People who didn't get around to nominating are also very much encouraged to participate during the voting rounds.
Classical Group 5

Strongest group of the five IMO
3 - Moonlight Sonata
2 - Mars, the Bringer of War
1 - Symphony No.9
GROUP 1
The curious thing about this category is that I had never actually heard of any of my own nominations (except "Euphoria") until I went through Eurovision playlists on Spotify looking for songs I liked. I found a lot of good ones, although "Maps" is by far my favorite.
3 - Maps - I took Glüc's advice and found a video of the live Eurovision performance, which I unfortunately liked significantly less than the official video.
2 - Grab the Moment
1 - Occidentali's Karma
Yeah, strong group this one
3 - Mondscheinsonate
2 - Dvorak
1 - Chopin
3 - Dancing Lasha Tumbai

Before we start, a quick note on tactical voting
Tactical voting in this case refers to either giving more points than you would normally have to a song because it would make the difference between going through or getting eliminated OR giving fewer points than you would normally have to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

Sadly, the voting on these groups has closed already, and we're already on to the next category (comedy music groups 3&4) now, although the deadline for that is also in a couple minutes. New groups will be released tomorrow. Of course you are still welcome to list your favourites of previous groups. Theres also still a final round the classical music category upcoming.
