heh, i also tried learning english (though not just once) and never got past ... many things. ha, would i be able to recognise kiwi accent (american accents are cos of series and movies more recognisable)? ok, no (thnx YT), but it is funny, some kiwi vowels (according to the videos) differ from standard as do those in brno dialect comparing to standard czech, especially [e].

gee, i just realised (when i reminded me-self how you mocked my english in 1997), that i know you guys for almost half of my life :o

anyway, how is talossa doing? i do not see much activity right now (and it's high proly cos of virus), e.g. the non-hereditary talossa sounds appealing.

how many fiôvâns are there? i saw eiric b. (hi!!!!), but even in older messages not so many good ol'faces.

and now for smth completely different, you are the singing profi, so how did you get d'accord with sound of your voice? i have to record the lecturing in one course into the ppt files, not only it is extremely dull not to speak to vivid faces (even of sleeping or bored students), but i HATE the sound of my voice. usually, students give me very good feedback to my lecturing, but until now i haven't realised, how do i sound. i knew from before, that your voice sounds creepy on record, but shouting hard-core lyrics makes it less ... annoying.

oh, and daph as talossan PM? congrats 8)

Welcome Back Ian!

yay, thnx :) so, i see, the PNW is still alive. once fully in, i would like to join it again. i only may confirm, that ageing makes me more and more peculiar. it has to do smth with the brain being burned as a resistor in the ReaLLife(TM) storm or what. it has to be a glowing singing giraffe to take my attention, glowing chatty mouse i already saw.

Australians think New Zealanders say "fush and chups" (short i -> schwa), New Zealanders think Australians say "feesh and cheeps" (short i -> [i:])

Certainly part of it, but i think it's more active than when you quit these many years ago because you told us Talossa was obviously doomed :D

You just missed GV, who's gone on a break! Dieter, Carlüs, Txec dal Már all hang around occasionally.

Practice? Lessons?

Quotedaph as talossan PM? congrats 8)

The culmination of a 10 year plan ;) Incidentally, my daughter (4 years old this September) loves the Krtek DVD you sent me lo these many years ago

;D in prague, the word "he regretted" politoval [polɪtoval] sound more like [polætovɑl] (very close to "he flew around"), in brno [poliˑtovɑl]. otoh, word "dog" pes [pɛs], sounds in brno very much like [pis], but in prague [pæs].

pshsht, i still think that talossa (and ark, etc) is doomed ;) but even a slump ride to hell may be a lot of fun. what's important to me, once you, guys, are here, i want to be here too.

10-year plan, that is an innovation! bolsheviks never made it past 5-year plans... that has to be, why they failed.

oops, i really missed a lot. daughter! and more congrats are on their way!

btw, krtek rulez, quite a lot generations fell in love with him. i still have my book about how krtek get his blue jeans and kids of my friends watch the story on tablets and phones... krtek was in space, krtek was used by our esteemed mr. president to get attention of chairman xí. americans may have micky, russians zayats, but we, we have krtek  ;D ;D ;D

Ahoj! I'm glad you come here. Czech Republic is a great country!
I am going to go to the language courses in September in Prague, but in this situation, the probabilities are reduced.
How is the state of the Czech Republic? Do you plan to open embassies and borders? And most importantly, how is your health? :)

спасибо, у нас по счастливой всё в порядке :) надеюсь, что у вас тоже. i think, that in september things will be calmer here. now, borders are theoretically open, but you need 14-days quarantine on arrival or max 4-days old negative test to enter. future very much depends on the situation in the country of the origin; e.g. russia still did not reach the peak after the first wave of anti-virus measures, but september is optimistically far away to reach it safely.

then, i personally really wish this smart quarantine works as designed. i do not much give a damn to big brother watching me (it's doing it anyway), i think it is our only chance to keep the seniors and other endangered groups save without making the country one big jail.

living in the very small estate in the countryside, i am more worried about the bloody weather than virus. it is beginning of may, and grass is already yellow on some spots, pines and spruce are dying in large numbers all around and the forecast is not optimistic at all too.

Same here. East Frisia, where I'm living now, should be drenched by rain by this time of the year, but ever since the beginning of April the sun keeps shining down on us from dusk till dawn and the land is turning yellow and brown. Also, insects have become rare and there's some sort of a lethal bird flu going round, so the times seem to be a bit apocalyptic if one likes to panic easily.

the strange "nice weather" is accompanied by very cold nights (mostly cos of strong north wind). this year, there will be no cherries, no apricots, no peaches, no plums, cos there were many freezy nights in march and april with temps bellow zero, which is unusual - it should be cold, but not bellow zero. more positive note, vineyard survives droughts and cold quite well :)
