Title: [CULTURE] Royal Society for the Advancement of Knowledge
Post by: Miestră Schivă, UrN-GC on July 15, 2024, 01:18:04 AM
¡Estimat.dăs citaxhiens!

As my first job in my new term as Minister of Culture, I must deal with the Royal Society for the Advancement of Knowledge, and its Presidency, which is sadly now vacant since the "promotion to glory" of our beloved Ian Tamorán.

Under El Lexhatx C.2 and C.3, it is up to me to make a recommendation to the King as to a new President of the Royal Society. Applications are now open.

Reminding everyone as to what this role entails, El Lexhatx C.1.6:

Quote1.6     The Royal Society for the Advancement of Knowledge, headed by the President of the Royal Society. The function of the Royal Society is to conduct and promote research and academic study in all areas of human endeavour.

1.6.1. Schools may be created within the Society for the purpose of focusing on a specific subject. The exact procedure for establishing a school shall be chosen by the President, who shall also appoint a dean to supervise each school.

May I plead that any applicant be serious in restoring the Royal Society to its former glory, such as by reviewing membership rolls, revoking the ridiculous postnominals motion and exploring the possibility of offering courses - any kind of courses! - again?

I would be offering this comment as a member of the Royal Society, except all my membership enquiries over the years went unanswered - which is ironic considering academic research is currently my real life job.

These kind of big offices without political connections or implications are tailor made for apolitical Talossans who might like to get involved more but struggle to *find something to do*. I would strongly prefer the new President of the Royal Society was one such scientifically-minded Talossan. If no such candidate existed, I would consider applying.

Yes, I am looking forward to seeing how the next SoS handles policy concerning involvement in politics especially considering your recent vote, Luc.

Greetings fellows,

I come before you as a educator, as a culture reasurcher and as a talossan for now 10 years.

I may have a history here, and yet that history is but one brick in the great walls that form the house we find ourselves in, the bedroom kingdom,  born of a child's imagination, yet still existing all these years later.

A culture has grown here. This culture has a uniqueness all of its own, and I would say that it's runs deeper than just our lagunage an adopted history as well as its own history over the 5 decades.

This history is well recored, our language well established (yet for my own taste, a little difficult to learn). I feel that other areas of culture remains somewhat understood and scantily reasurched and if appointed I'd be interested in reasurching areas.

For my personal qualifications, I have my masters in Media and Cultural Studies, with my thesis focusing on intergenerational conflict between Babyboomers and Millennials, which I'm more than willing to spew forth at very little notice. A large majority of said thesis focused on online tribalism and cyberpragmatics, which, if applied to talossan society could be of use both politically, sociologically as well as for marconational promotion and marketing.

I feel that the royal society should take on this roll, aiding resurch in these areas, holding symposia, producing and publishing academic journal and becoming a leding light into mircronational political, cultural  and socalogical studies, on top of its educational obligations.

I feel I am upto this task, having created a small academic journal with my pears at university and well placed academicly to lead such reasurch.

I thank you for your consideration and welcome any questions as to my capability.

I personally feel that education as the prime oparadi of the society does limit is wider appeal to the highly educated citizens we already possess and I propose we extend into to areas to help guide talossan social policy. Not that the previous work by the society was limited as it more than speaks for itself, I just feel it's vacancy as well as in low academic turnover of recent years showes that there are gaps in which engagement is being lost, which I belive to be symptomatic of a wider problem here in moden talossa. With all the current changes in our society I think that now is the time to start a new chapter. I feel the society has room for growth into the academic feild, even that outside of talossa, and I feel that we should and I'm sure can start producing accreditation towards work produced for the betterment of talossan society and its advancement.

Thank you Tierciu, you mentioned early in your answer that the Society limits its appeal. Do you think it is a warranted and feasible objective for the Society to broaden its appeal to the general public? An example I could forsee would be educational materials or productions on issues currently before the Ziu.

Academic speaking, I think we are of interest to the wider academic community as we basically are our own melting pot.
Educationally, I do feel that we have fallen off the wagon somewhat for the newer citizens, as times has changed since my early days, which does make some areas of talossa less accessible, so I would be keen to do educational resources, introducing or reintroducing our society and our nation back to the citizens. A lot of the old story's need retelling and also archiving those story's as they also make up the culture we have built.

I promise to not go mad with power or invent and wheld  phycohistory and write prophesies of the fall of the future talossan galactic empire? We have other political and cluture groups to do that 🙄

On a serious note, I intend to approach the society as true achedemic institution, a place to share and develop a independent body to not only be of of scientific and societal advice the state but the academic community at large.

If appointed, Within my first year I will endeavour to do the following.

I am limiting my scope as I wish to only offer what I feel I can deliver within a year without too much pressure or worries around time commitments.

@Tierçéu Rôibeardescù now that you are officially the new Royal Society president I'd like to offer the resources and services of Fora Talossa in spreading any educational ventures from the Royal Society through its channels.

We are Talossa's largest repository of video programming and a cooperative venture seems like a good opportunity for continued growth and service to the nation.

Let me rephrase. If I get a certification from LexisNexis, it asks me "would you like ot post on LinkedIn?" and if I click "yes" the post on LinkedIn is able to be verified by anyone looking to see if I actually got the certification I posted about.
