Title: [Cantzelerïă/Chancery] February 2025 Clark - 60th Cosa
Post by: Sir Lüc on February 01, 2025, 10:25:34 AM
Voting on the February 2025 Clark (the 6th and final of the 60th Cosă) is now open.

You can find the Clark at: https://wiki.talossa.com/images/0/08/February2025Clark.pdf

You can vote here (MCs) or in the equivalent Senate thread (Senators). For this Clark only, voting will only be accepted as posts on Wittenberg, and not on the Database. The Secretary of State apologizes for the inconvenience. Any members who, for any reason, have difficulty logging in to Wittenberg and/or posting their votes should contact the Chancery's Gmail address (talossachancery).

Voting is open until the 21st of the month, at 19h30 TST.

Senators are allowed to create a single thread in the Senate chamber to post all of the Senate votes that are not cast in this thread. Any votes not posted either using the form above, the current thread or the Senate thread might be ignored and void. Please do not vote by email or private messages.

When you vote, do not indicate any conditions which may make it sound like this vote isn't final: you can always change your vote later.

(I would like to note that the Clark PDF is now fancy and Lex.G.12.1-compliant.)

RZ20: austáneu. This bill needs repair, as Senator Plätschisch mentions, and I don't mind one way or another if we pass it now and repair it later, or wait for later to pass a repaired version.
RZ21: për. I'm neutral on the actual "fixed term" issue, but other repairs in this bill are necessary:
- making it clear that the Cosa can elect a Seneschal at other times than at the beginning of a term;
- making the VoC mean something, even on the last Clark
- removing the power of early dissolution which has never been used.

RZ20-Aus
RZ21-CON. There is no problem this bill solves. We don't need fixed terms to continue functioning; if anything, fixed terms will mean that citizens who only show up to vote on Election Day have less of a reason to check Witt to see when it's time to vote, since they can schedule it on the calendar. There is also no reason to remove the early dissolution power. Just because the power hasn't been used doesn't mean it isn't needed—it shows that it has been respected, and will only be used if completely unusual and unique circumstances warrant. There is no reason to get rid of the power even in the context of "fixed terms"; the schedule could either be "permanently" shifted based on the early dissolution or an election could be undertaken to fill out a remaining term. But, I will admit that I am happy that the VoC remains in the bill. I have little problems with the change to allow the opposition leader (or designee) to become Seneschal upon failure of a VoC, though I would generally prefer the people to decide (in a new election) on who takes over rather than the Leader of the Opposition, and would in either case have preferred some period of delay to allow the power transfer to take place. (A delay that is probably difficult when you are inflexible with election dates.)
RZ22-Per
RZ23-Per
RZ24-Per

VoC-After much deliberation and considering the very welcome change to RZ21 to keep the VoC, which I said at the time was appreciated though I still couldn't support the bill, I vote UC.
