Title: Totally mindblowing realisation
Post by: Barclamïu da Miéletz on July 17, 2025, 09:52:27 AM
Just realised that my birthday is in exactly two months. What will also happen in two months? Me applying for German citizenship to get an ID because I can't be bothered to go to Poland just to get an ID (I mean it'd be time to get an ID because you're legally required to have on here at 16).

Yay, incoming German bureaucracy. (I hope it isn't bad.)

King Txec and myself were born in Frankfurt (West Germany) and had dual-citizenship until we were 18 I believe. I love Germany and its people. We were last in a village called Wildflëcken which at the time was only a few kilometers from the East German border. At the end of our street (straße) was a little food stand we called the "schnitzel stand". They served an amazing schnitzel sandwich on fresh brötchen and paprika-seasoned pomme frittes (french fries).
Mein Gotte in Himmel! I'd gladly endure a 12 hour flight to eat there again!

I mainly want dual citizenship just to get an ID, but I'll still benefit from it, mainly I'd gain the right to vote and I could enter more countries visa-free (I can't believe I will get more rights than my own family).

I doubt that nearly 40 years later, the schnitzel stand is still there, but man would I love to eat there again.

I lived in Germany a couple of times as a kid, I just wish I could find someplace that serves real schnitzel. I ordered it once at the "German" restaurant at Disney in Florida and they brought me sauerkraut and sausage and insisted it was schnitzel

We have an excellent German restaurant near us called Old World Market. The food is authentic and they even have a shop where you can buy German food products. The Queen and I go there as often as we can.

What areas in Germany did you live in?

From which state? There are basically sixteen different cuisines within Germany.

I only remember one town name (not sure of spelling but I think Ehrloch). Dad was stationed at Kitzingen but we almost never lived on the base, we were about an hour from the base. I don't remember the name of the other town. Both were small towns at the time. Funny I spoke fairly fluent German as a child but I don't remember hardly any of it today. I had to learn to have any friends, learned most of it by watching Looney Tunes cartoons, I had seen them all so many times I knew them word for word. I went to school on the base and got in trouble there because I was in kindergarten and we were supposed to count to 10, I found that incredibly boring so I was counting backwards from 100 in German, teacher called my mother in saying I was being rude and disrespectful and spouting gibberish when she wanted me to count and was threatening to hold me back because I couldn't count to 10 LOL

I also say "die Nutella". The reason is very logical and simple as well, the noun ends with an "a", indicating it's feminine, which means the feminine article "die" is used.

Those two things have nothing in common! There was a place in Anaheim near Disneyland called Jägerhouse that had fairly authentic food. There is a place in the next city from mine that serves Bavarian find that I like.
