Applicant Name:@Megan Noel Wanke Gender:Female
Year of Birth:1982
Location:Milwaukee, WI
It would appear that I reside outside the designated Talossan realm. However, my office is located within Maricopa province.
Have you been introduced to the Kingdom of Talossa by an existing citizen?NO
Do you have any previous experience with, or membership in, any "micronations"?NO
Is it okay if Talossan citizens contact you by e-mail?YES
Is it okay if Talossan citizens contact you by telephone?YES
About Myself:I am lucky to live a rich and varied life at only 37 years of age.
I have worked in the civil rights field for 15 years, assisting individuals in exercising their rights under federal, state, and local fair housing laws. I am quite proud of my work and the difference it has made in the lives of others. I am not a lawyer but I play one on TV.
I have three offspring - 6, 10, and 19. The 19 year old is attending UWM (which I believe is located within the Kingdom) as a violin virtuoso who hopes to perform professionally and teach high school kids to love music in the way he always has. My 10 year old is a whip smart, always put-together young lady who criticizes my unkempt eyebrows and who desperately wants a cat. My 6 year old is a phenom, a child of nature who is constantly covered in dirt and bruises. She has transformed her room into a "museum" by basically stealing my extensive fossil collection. If she likes you, she will lend you a fossil or two for a three week period; after the 22nd day, you will incur a $5 daily fine per fossil until they are returned.
I am married to the funniest person I've ever met. His name is Steve and we are polar opposites politically, but he likes fossils as much as I do. We got married 12 years ago in a backyard. I adore my in laws and can watch faraway hurricane coverage with my mother in law for hours.
We have a pedigreed yellow lab named Bruce who we obtained for $200 12 years ago because no one else wanted him. He is the finest dog on earth and honestly probably far more deserving of Talossan citizenship than me. He does not retrieve anything, ever. He is a terrible bird dog and sleeps in our bed and is beloved by all. He is old now and has developed doggie dementia. He gets regularly lost in the house these days, but remains the calmest and wisest member of the household.
My favorite thing is the woods. My girls and I go camping many times every summer in the northwoods; the more remote, the better. We sleep in tents and the 6 year old catches toads and the 10 year old cooks things (not the toads). We own two full child-size mosquito netting outfits. The mosquitoes don't seem to like me. I chase the best stargazing in the state after putting them to bed. The highlight of my summer was watching the Perseids flit against the backdrop of a defined Milky Way, flat on my back in an inflatable kayak. If you grant me citizenship, you can come along next year.
Why I am Interested in Becoming a Talossan:Like many Americans, I have become entirely disillusioned with the U.S. system of governance, our growing lack of cultural cohesion, and the lack of community even within our own extended families and close neighbors. We lack a common purpose. We lack common norms. We have moved beyond the inherent disagreements crucial to a democratic society and into a state of constant, vitriolic conflict. Americans have fewer ties to the original founding ideals than ever before; our very social fabric seems to be fraying under the pressures of radical movements and focused propaganda.
I have been seeking an escape from the country in which I once placed so much faith. I yearn for a nation, a community, where every motivated citizen truly has a voice - where we can all still agree on the sanctity of common values and the democratic process, where no talking head demonizes half of our citizenry, where we are all devoted to the common welfare of our (micro)nation.
I will reluctantly admit that I considered Canada as a primary option, but they won't even let us in these days.
Lost and having almost given up all hope, I happened to learn about the Kingdom of Talossa on Reddit.
It is perfect! Talossa represents the embodiment of the pillars my home nation has so obviously forgotten: respect for cultural and historical traditions, the common bond of expected and encouraged citizen participation in its governmental institutions, and - best of all - a geographic realm that encompasses so many of the beloved elements of my hometown. I love this land, I love this place, and I want a true place within a functional society. I am humbly asking for the opportunity to prove myself worthy of the mantle of a citizen of the Kingdom of Talossa.
Where did you hear about the Kingdom of Talossa?Reddit

It was a pleasure reading your introduction. Very happy to see your interest, and I hope that it does not wane! One thing about Talossa that I want to share, if you want to jump in: you have to be willing to create things or start projects on your own, because if you wait for others to do it instead, then you may be waiting a long time.
That said, welcome! What do you do for work? How do you like Milwaukee? Have you ever thought about learning a new language?
If you'd like to get involved and integrated, so that you may apply for full citizenship, please get in touch with me by PM on these forums. I would love to show you around so that we might find what interests you most.
Cheers.
Welcome and well-met, Megan! Even if you don't live in Talossa proper, the fact you live ever so near is very cool. If all goes well, you will get all your Milwaukee friends to join our nationette. :-)
Yes, the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee is a huge part of Talossan history. Robert Ben Madison founded Talossa in 1979 as a one-man state, and his father, Harry, was the chairman of the psychology department for many years, I believe. UWM is a beautiful campus, and I'm glad their music program has been to ya'll's liking.
From 2002-2003, I was the Kingdom Prime Minister, and I've been in the Senäts about three years (my second stint in the Senäts).
My Talossan magnum opus (so far, I hope), is 'A Nation Sundered', which covers events from 2002-2004. It can be found at www.libraryoftalossa.com on its horrible GoogleDrive page. Eventually, a more pretty page will be established, but until that happy day, the GoogleDrive will have to do. Enjoy, and again, welcome!
Also, I've been to the East Side twice. The bus ride from Chicago was stark in the change from urban to rural. The East Side itself is quite lovely.
