The Nation Celebrates Democracy Day
On this day in 1981, Dan Lauriéir was sworn in as the first elected Prime Minister in Talossan history. The ballots had been counted the day before, and the winner of our very first democratic election was the Democratic Dandipratic Party, which had campaigned openly on a promise to destroy Talossa and hand it back to the United States. The electorate numbered six. The King's party lost. Lauriéir's premiership lasted thirteen days, and democracy itself was declared dead within two months -- but it came back, and the next time it stayed.
Forty-five years later, a month after another general election, the 63rd Cosa is getting to work.. That's progress, but democracy still isn't something that happens to us. It's something we do. It's the elections we run, where we work to convince the voters and accept the results of their will. In modern Talossa, democracy has triumphed over despotism. Let's celebrate that!
