The Nation Celebrates Publicity Day
On 16 October 1984, the
Milwaukee Sentinel ran "He's Eastern monarch -- East Side, that is," the first article about Talossa ever to appear in the foreign press, and 40,000 Milwaukeeans woke up to discover they were living in a foreign country. The man who arranged it was Dan Laurieir -- the same Dan Laurieir who, three years earlier, had won our first election on a promise to abolish the place. Within a year of that article, Talossa had new citizens, new political parties, an opposition newspaper, and an elected Cosa. Publicity made Talossa bigger than one bedroom.
Forty-two years later, the value of publicity remains, even though the form is very different! So today, tell one person. Share a Wittenberg thread you're proud of, send a friend the link to talossa.com, post about us somewhere new, or just mention at dinner that you're a citizen of a kingdom on Milwaukee's East Side and see what happens. Heck, maybe you want to have one of our new maps printed and put it up somewhere. Our fiftieth birthday is three years out, but I'd like to arrive there with even more company!
