Title: Election Watch
Post by: xpb on May 23, 2021, 11:04:51 PM
Of the eldest active 50 who became citizens on or before April 9, 2008  (which may include some not allowed to vote - edited to add "active")
18 have voted thus far (36%)

153 citizens are allowed to vote.  Overall 32% have voted thus far.

185 citizens are listed as "active" and if we take the next 135 splitting up the remaining 31 votes that is at a 23% rate thus far

I would have been sorely tempted to vote for them if it hadn't meant spoiling my vote, effectively.

Turnout seems way down this year, unless there's a sudden rush.  It was 61% last time (93 total votes), and now we're at 36% (56 total votes) if I'm reading the database right.

Half the electorate have yet to register for these forums, and there have been some issues documented with ballots going to spam.

There seems to be an assumption here that the reason people aren't registered on this forum (or haven't voted yet in the election) is because they don't know about it. How about Occam's Razor: they don't care anymore?

The problem with ballots going to spam happened last election as well - a lot of people have short memories or weren't paying attention last time. This, I am reliably informed, is due to a problem with something called "SSL" in the database, which - for some reason - malforms the ballot emails so Gmail, in particular, identifies them as spam. This can only be fixed with the co-operation of MPF, who has been very busy outside Talossa recently. If I'm in the incoming Government, we'll prioritize fixing that, in the same way we dragged talossa.com into the present era.

I've noted the low turnout, but I've also noted that a lot of active Talossans haven't voted yet. One explanation could be that with 8 parties to choose from, people are thinking about it a bit longer.

Yes, I remember the problem happening last election, when turnout was 61%.  This year so far the turnout is 36%.

I hope that more people vote and that you are correct in guessing that they might just be taking their time.  That sounds plausible to me.

Wrong choice of words. My goal is to get people into the Cosa, not to give them multiple seats under our peculiar system.

There is of course a 1-issue party running in this election precisely on the basis of electoral reform, which I sympathise with, and I hope we can get some kind of cross-party consensus on in the new Cosa.

Up to 60 thus far - the Sumerians would approve

11 from Maricopa

10 from Fiova

9 from Atatûrk

7 from Cézembre & Florencià,

6 from Maritiimi-Maxhestic & Benito

4 from Vuode

3 more votes to get to over half of the population taking part

Turnout so far:
Citizens allowed to vote: 153
Citizens who voted: 74 (48.37%)
Citizens who have not yet voted: 79 (51.63%)

Am I right in thinking that each MC will be able to hold 26 Cosa seats (unless there's a huge surge today)?  That would mean that DIEN and other one-person list parties could have a maximum of 51 seats, B and TNC could have a maximum of 77 seats, LCC could have 104, and the FDT could have all 200?  I find this sort of thing confusing, but I think that's all correct.

Your math seems correct to me but I'll be making the official determination once the election ends.

That's much better!  Still not great and down significantly, but way better than what it was looking like!  Thank goodness.

Does anyone know when the last national census was? I don't seem to have a record of that.

I asked this in the other thread a while ago, but: is there a chance of getting the voting results broken down by province as well?
Title: Re: Election Watch
Post by: King Txec on June 01, 2021, 04:26:50 PM
That won't be possible. Some votes are private and I won't be able to tell who voted which way in each province.

Now, if you are asking for "how many voters from x province" then that is something I think anyone can do by simply looking at the list of citizens who voted. I won't have time to do this for the forseeable future as I'll need to compile election data, assemble the EC, set up the next Cosa, and run the Seneschal election.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly: it's not possible to get anonymised vote tallies for each province? Hm, that's unfortunate. Thanks for your time, though.

Because the provinces are so small, breaking down votes by provinces would kind of spoil the secrecy of the ballot

I don't believe that's the case, but if it is, constituency-based voting systems like MMP would be impossible, wouldn't they? I was interested in the provincial tallies to test out what a hypothetical 56th Cosă under MMP would look like.

There is no way for me to provide anonymized information. I can tell how many per province voted, but not how those voters actually voted even if I redacted information because the nature of our system is set up that I cannot see how everyone voted. The only votes known to me are those marked public.

79 votes received with 45 minutes remaining. 51.6% turnout.
