It is my duty now to call upon members of the Cosa to elect a Seneschal for the 57th Cosa General Election. The relevant sections of the Organic Law are below:

The method of election of a Seneschál shall be Ranked Choice Voting. Each member of the Cosâ shall have as many votes in the election as the seats which he hold in the Cosâ, but shall cast his votes as one bloc and have no divided conscience. The candidates for each such election shall be nominated by each political party which shall have earned representation in the Cosâ at the most recent general election. (54RZ23) (55RZ22)

No member of the Cosâ may abstain in the election of a Seneschál, and shall rank on his ballot at least two distinct preferences, which itself shall be made public. (54RZ23)

Whichever candidate shall have earned a majority of the votes in his election, as according to the method of Ranked Choice Voting, shall be appointed subsequently and forthwith by the King to serve as Seneschál, and the results of the election shall be published at large in the Clark. (54RZ23)

This election will be conducted entirely on Wittenberg. All MCs are invited to cast their votes in this thread.

This election has two candidates for Seneschal. As this is a ranked choice vote, and per OrgLaw requirements, all MCs must cast a vote for their first choice and their second choice.

I hereby cast my vote for Ian Plätschisch as Seneschal for my first choice,
Which leaves my second vote, which i have changed, due to the SoS having a different view on the law,
So i am changing it out of respect for him.
My second choice vote is Brenier Tzaracompadra, which i cast under protest, but still cast.

I hereby cast my single first choice vote for Ian Plätschisch. I cast my second choice vote for Brenier Tzaracompadra.

i hereby cast my vote for ian plätschisch with no second choice.

Actually, I am a little angry that neither I nor anyone else thought of this:

We don't have to vote for just the FreeDems and TNC.

My first preference is Ian.
My second preference is the PdR.

They have a party leader and representation in the Cosa; I should be permitted Organically to vote for the PdR's leader.

No, we changed the system after the first go. The current law says that only the candidates actually nominated by the parties go forward to a vote. The PdR didn't nominate (neither did the LCR or Dien). Only 2 nominations. Sorry, that's the interpretation that the SoS is defending in Court.

Sounds to me, then, like we're reaping what we sowed when we didn't bother to consider the larger implications of piecemeal amendments.

Although I would argue that the PdR can't nominate anyone but its own leader. I mean, is there even a process in place for nomination? As far as I'm concerned, each party implicitly nominates itself.

Unless the PdR wishes unequivocally to announce that it refuses to nominate its own leader as a candidate for Seneschal, then I consider my vote valid.

Don't worry, though: the Talossan judiciary is a joke, so I won't be filing any lawsuit ;)

Seems like the PdR leader is nominated implicitly, then! They never nominated anyone, so their leader should be assumed to be on the ballot.
