OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTRY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Infotecă (https://talossa.com/infoteca/)

The citizens of Talossa deserve to know basic information about their country -- how much we're talking with each other, how much money we have and we're spending, and whether or not our immigration system is working.  And now for the first time, all of that information is just one click away!  Yes, that's right: Infotecă (https://talossa.com/infoteca/) is live again, with everything you need to know!

Access Infotecă here (https://talossa.com/infoteca/).

The design is basic and easy to maintain, and while collecting all of the data is going to be a chore, keeping it updated will be a breeze.  Future governments will only need to spend five or ten minutes their entire term on maintenance, and it's based on a simple spreadsheet that requires no technical knowledge to change.

While none of this information has been hidden or restricted, collecting it in one place for the first time will allow for easy comparison and accountability.  Everyone can keep track of things that they might be interested in learning about their own country, making informed voting decisions, working on journalism, or simply satisfying their own curiosity.  The numbers won't ever provide the complete picture, but they're definitely a part of the picture.  And now everyone has easy access to these basic statistics, without any special knowledge required.

Infotecă is not yet complete, and we'll be filling in all the back information as we find the time over the course of this term.  In future updates, we plan to add the following:

Please let us know if you have any questions or requests.

OK, this is actually pretty neat. A few comments though:
-I am pretty sure that "Most Online" is completely meaningless. If there is a useful interpretation of it, that is not "how many bots have ever wandered here at the same time," please let me know
-Is "Users" the number of new users that month?

Thanks! Yes, I'm pretty happy with it so far. It'll get better as we fix it up a bit.

I agree that most online is a completely useless metric and not reflective of anything interesting. However, I took to heart the criticism during the campaign that it would be unwise to set up a system that was a ton of work to maintain. So these are the default statistics provided by our forum. This means that updating each month just requires copying and pasting a single row, without even needing to remove any of the columns. I really wanted to make it as smooth as possible, since it seemed like people were worried about the burden on future governments.

Users is the number of new users, yes. I try to set up the spreadsheet in such a way that it displays all of its information at a single glance to a majority of users based on what information I was able to gather about common screen resolutions.

Okay, so... we're back!  And to make up for the loss again, we have now included full immigration data from the past three years!  That means that we're pretty much up-to-date on all of this information (as far as it will ever be available).  For ease of future governments, it's been set up to auto-update the charts embedded on the sheets, and adding new information is as simple as pasting in a new row of numbers.

We might go back and add in even further immigration data at some point, or further tweak the way the information is presented.  But maybe you want to do it, fellow Talossans!  If you're good with spreadsheets and have some clever ideas here, please let me know -- I'm sure there's lots to do here that isn't immediately apparent to me!

This is excellent work, Baron. For the second or third (?) time. I'm relieved that we nailed the server outage problem and hopefully this won't need to be repeated again.

🎵 Guess who's procrastinating on housework? 🎵

That's right, it's me!  And that means that Infotecă just got even better!  I finally did something I should have done a long time ago, and I spent a few minutes making it marginally prettier!

I also bumped all of the visualization charts to their own sheet, took @Ian Plätschisch 's advice about better trendlines where applicable, and added a whole sheet of data going back to 2012 on the current topic: elections!

Check it out!
