Title: Regency
Post by: King John on October 14, 2020, 11:34:48 AM
For various reasons, I have found myself unable to keep up with necessary work around here.  I don't see the situation changing in the immediate future, and I'm about to leave town for a while during which I'll have very spotty access to the internet.  Sir Alexandreu Davinescu has graciously agreed to act as Regent for the time being, and so ...

We JOHN by the Grace of God King of Talossa and of all its Realms and Regions, King of Cézembre, etc. etc., do hereby appoint Sir Alexandreu to serve as Our Regent, until further notice.  Done under Our hand Royal at the city of Centennial in Colorado, this 14th day of October in the year of salvation 2020, the 41st of the independence of Talossa, and of Our Reign the fifteenth.

John Regeu

I will do my best to live up to the crown's trust.

I'm not entirely sure what is outstanding beyond a few public things.  Acting in the name of the king, I have appointed the Cabinet and begun to make arrangements for the state opening.  I'll soon look at outstanding grants of arms.  Please PM me if there are other outstanding matters, if you have any questions, or if there is anything else I can do.  I wasn't expecting this so I don't quite have the requisite pomp on hand, but I'll do some research in the next few days and make things more suitably pretentious once I have a chance.  Lots of "by my hand" stuff and the like.

We need SoS and Scribe official appointments. I've asked the King to replace the Governor of Maricopa to an active citizen also.

Done the first two.  I make no commitment as to appointment of a governor for Maricopa at this time, but will investigate the state of the province, the urgency of the matter, and any guidelines from His Majesty.

Florencia has petitioned the Crown for a new constable. Without a constable we will have provincial resolutions in need of approval or veto over the next several weeks.

Thank you for the notice.  I can make no commitment at this time about the appointment of offices so wholly within His Majesty's purview, but I am now aware of the issue and will do my best to address the matter as quickly as I might.  I beg your patience in the meantime.

I intend to be as conservative as possible in acting on His Majesty's behalf, recognizing that many things need doing, but also trying not to overstep my bounds.  If you feel comfortable, could you say whether or not it would suit Florencia if I acted on the bills for the time being?  If there's some other pressing need for an appointment to the position, then that's one thing, but if I could make the call for the time being, that would save me having to make a permanent appointment on His Majesty's behalf.  Would that suit the province, you think?

I agree firmly that the provinces need active governors.  May I ask if there is an institutional role that is currently going unfilled, though -- is there something pressing that needs to be done?  If so, please tell me so that I can do it.  In the meantime, I will be putting together recommendations for vacant gubernatorial positions, like this one, that I can then present to His Majesty.  I'd like to help His Majesty deal with the things piled up on his plate, but I'd also like to avoid ordering the next course until he returns, so to speak.

As a temporary work-around acting on individual legislation is fine. But Florencia has been without an active constable for some time. It would be appreciated if a suggestion for a Florencian constable appointment is included when you are conferring on recommendations with the King.

Absolutely. I apologize that my twin replies were confusing, but I intend to recommend active officers for every post that I find that is currently not being served. I also intend to focus some attention on the College of Arms, since it's one of the most enduringly popular services provided by the crown

As Preimier of Maricopa, I am intending on asking the Cunstaval (who is absent as you well know) to invest some Maricopans into The Order of the Sovereign Province of Maricopa. I can make the recommendations but I cannot confer the titles. The Cunstaval is the President of the Order.

I understand. When that occurs, if we have not yet arrived at a place where a new cunstaval has been appointed, the crown will act to confer the titles either in His Majesty's own person or by my hand. Please let me know if there's anything else that needs doing in the meantime.

The lack of a Cunstaval is why I never made appointments during my terms.

When I wrote the law creating The Order I never imagined we'd go so long without a Cunstaval. Nevertheless I will proceed with my plans and hope the regent will act in the role.

At this point, it makes sense to me if my office was apparent at a glance to visitors; time to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.  @Dr. Txec Róibeard dal Nordselvă, Esq., O.SPM, SMM would you put a custom title on my profile, please?  Probably just something like Rexhaint d'Ian Regeu (or would English be better?)

I probably should have requested this in week two of this appointment, for the simple sake of transparency.  I don't know exactly when His Majesty will be able to resume his duties, though.  When I have a clear timeline to share, I will do so in an announcement.
