With the Scribe's blessing, one thing I'd like to do first is a little wiki-editing, actually. The articles related to the Organic Law are rather jumbled at the moment, and in some cases links point to the 1997 OrgLaw, when in reality it would be more sensible to have them redirect to the current version.

Absolutely. After I've finished updating the 56th Cosa (I have a PD and the newly minted referenda to add to the OrgLaw), I'll get you access to edit the law space (I think that is the correct term). As of right now, I'm the only one who edit the actual laws themselves.

Thanks,

Thank you most kindly.

This is only a temporary appointment until the new Government is formally set up, but there are certain things that have to be done. The most important is that @Eðo Grischün has expressed his wish to step aside from the role of Permanent Secretary as appointed here. (The role probably doesn't even exist given the establishment of the new Ministry of Technology anyway; plus, the King never confirmed!)

In that regard, I have appointed citizen Bradley Higgs as the new Deputy Minister of Technology, with the following portfolio:

1) back-end administration duties of talossa.com;
2) preparing a report for the Government on what should be done to improve the functioning of talossa.com (and the future, if any, of talossa.net);
3) working with the Chancery on the upgrading and possible replacement of the National Database.

Questions? Comments?

As things stand with our database, I cannot appoint a new member of the Electoral Commission, and I'm very strongly considering holding the upcoming Seneschal election on Witt, since it will be far easier to set up.

I'd also like to ask if the Deputy Minister would be able to help upgrade Wittenberg to the newest release. I've been able to do a minor update on my own, but a major numbered upgrade is too daunting for me.

.... I would have never thought of that  :D

I like this idea. But next question: what if the vacancy happens while the Cosa is dissolved? Can we just "let it slide until the new Cosa" in that case?

If the Cosa is dissolved, the Secretary of State or another member of the Royal Household could perform the basic functions in the intervening time period, until the end of an election, when a new Speaker could be quickly elected. At most, it would be an intervening period of not more than 30 days.

Just playing devils advocate here, but what if the Cosa can't muster a 2/3rd vote, or enough of a vote to end the government by the VoC?

I would be able to help. Not like I need an excuse to spend more time on the wiki :P

Perhaps we could start you out as a Deputy Scribe. It would be a good opportunity to learn the ropes.

That was what I had in mind, sorry for being unclear. I wouldn't want to just jump in as the head honcho.

Then it shall be so! I'll make the official appointment later today.

Azul,

As has been pointed out numerous times, I have a lot of jobs here in Talossa. As such, I am hoping to find someone to either replace me as the Scribe of Abbavilla, or agree to become an Deputy Scribe. It's not a ton of work, but it does add to the workload for me.

You need to be able to edit wiki text on our Wiki, and be ready to regularly update the laws after each Clark or Referendum passes.

If you are interested, please let me know.

Thanks,

Txec dal Nordselva
Scribe of Abbavilla

Prince Patrick Woolley has contacted the Chancery with updated information. I am satisfied of his intent and his identity and therefore his citizenship has been restored.

We're currently running SMF 2.0.17 from three years ago.  SMF 2.1.1 is the current version, and it has a bunch of desirable features -- including things like 2FA, better BBCode, better mentions (ever try to tag the Seneschal in a post?), better mobile support, and the ability to write drafts of a message.  Maybe it would be a good idea to schedule an update at some point soon?

I've successfully updated the forum to 2.0.19, a release that is only four months old. From what I can see, updating to 2.1.1 will possibly overwrite anything custom that was installed when this version of Wittenberg was first created. As I don't wish to "break" things, I will not be updating to that version until I have a plan in place. I'll keep this on my list of things to do.

I will take a look at it.

When I was regent, I worked up a fancy template that His Majesty used for the grant of knighthood and my barony at the last honours -- should we do something like that (which was pseudo-medieval) or something more workaday like the current UK grants?  Obviously I think fancy is better.  For reference: https://wittenberg.talossa.com/index.php?topic=792.0

The fancier the better!

Any enterprising Collegiates who want to take on setting up a Registry of Badges on the wiki in a way that makes sense?

Perhaps this could be a task for The Long Fellow or, when he is granted citizenship, the newest applicant to be the OAF.

It's been a very long time since the College put together significant honours all at once with any pomp, probably because it's usually been just one or two people acting as heralds for years.  In my continuing effort to bust energy loose throughout Talossa, I think we should have more pomp and possibly even more circumstance.  So this isn't done with any authority, but it's just an idea and a list.

I believe this is a complete list of the current awaiting achievements.  I also propose that we ask His Majesty to begin officially issuing letters patent to members of the College.  This wouldn't be anything physical, but just official proclamation.

Tafsut Imazighen Honours (20 Apr)

Grant of achievement for @Caleb Frenibuerg : Per chevron Vert and Argent, in chief a hand couped and lion of the second, and in base a heart of the first.
Grant of achievement for @Mic'haglh Autófil : Per bend sinister Or and Azure, a bend sinister Sable and Argent, between a bear rampant of the third armed of the fourth and a demi-cogwheel of thirteen teeth of the first.
Grant of achievement for @Tric'hard Lenxheir : Azure, a dragon sejant affronty upon a spoked wheel all Argent.
Enhancement of achievement for @Baron Alexandreu Davinescu : Upon a helm with a mural crown a crow, and the motto "COMPASSIONEM AUDENTIAM VERUMQUE QUAERAMUS."

Possibly also congratulations to new Fellow(s) and Heralds, with issue of letters patent to:
@Mic'haglh Autófil  as the Long Fellow.
@Dr. Txec Róibeard dal Nordselvă, Esq., O.SPM, SMM  as the Rouge Eagle Herald
@Baron Alexandreu Davinescu  as the Noir Raven Herald

I like this. We'll have to dig up an old version of the last honors we did so we can properly format the grants and the letters patent.

Completely understood, thank you?

I don't want you to feel disheartened. This isn't a denial of your application, it is simply a "we must wait" thing.
