El Funal/The Hopper / Re: The Census Review Act

Quote from: Breneir Tzaracomprada on June 08, 2025, 07:48:45 PMOne suggestion: we might want to remove the denominational options for Christianity and Islam.

There are many in the Christian religions who would consider a protestant as NOT a Christian and many who would consider a Catholic as NOT a Christian. I'm unsure if the same thing applies to Suni and Shia in Islam or not. I see no issue with keeping this distinction and I don't think it was an issue during the last census.

The Landing Pier / Re: Greetings From Carcosa
June 06, 2025, 09:50:12 AM
Questions from MC's regarding the treaty:

  • What are some of their interesting ideas for joint projects?  Could they interact with us in some way and tell us about them?

  • They're a small community that lives on their territory -- where is that territory?  How many people?

  • Hastyr Aldebaran is an assumed name (again, taken from the book) and the other name on this treaty has initials.  Their website doesn't say anything about anyone else.  It's almost entirely about their form of government, but who is the "Mandator," who is in their four (!) houses of legislature, who is on their Supreme Court, who is in the "Yellow Reserve," etc?

Well we can hardly fault them for assumed names as we all use them also. I'll ask them in our Discord chat to visit the Landing Pier and I'll post your questions there as I'm not sure if they can see this thread or not.

We have had many conversations with them while discussing diplomacy. I fail to see how recognizing them is an issue, and they have some really interesting ideas for joint projects like artistic or sporting competitions. Yes, they do actually live on the land they claim, so much of their actual "talk" is face to face. Discord is more for outreach. I'm not sure why they have the themes they do, but then again can anyone fully explain why King Ben made many of his early choices either? Is that really a basis to judge them? If Talossa wishes to not ratify the treaty, that is up to the Ziu. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has done some extraordinary work here in establishing contact with an outside kingdom that is definitely quirky, but isn't every micronation?

Every knight is entitled to a motto, as well as to have their arms adorned with helm and belt. While we wait on the Dean, do you have a motto in mind?

I don't know if this is possible but I'd like to move this back to the Hopper for additional revisions and discussion if possible. @King Txec has raised some legitimate concerns which I'd like to address before moving forward.

Thank you. I merged my comments from the other thread here for convenience of discussion.

"The Kingdom shall continue to represent and encourage peace between among all nations, Macro and Micro in nature."

By the way, this is not a typo on my part, this is the actual text of El Lex "peace between among all nations" - if we do end up keeping El Lex I, we should chose either "among" or "between".

I missed this bill when it was first proposed, as I think did many people. It is inappropriate for me to comment in the CRL so I figured I'd share my thoughts here.

At some point, the rush toward whatever this bill aims to do risks alienating citizens, destroying some of our cultural history, and completely missing the point. The section in question, that S:reu Tzaracomprada desires to completely eliminate, states very clearly the following:

QuoteThe military is maintained in effort to provide our citizens a unique opportunity to serve the Kingdom in uniform while gaining access to both special training and social opportunities. As an internally focused service, the UTMF are not intended for offensive use and anyone who commits actual acts of violence in the name of Talossa will lose their citizenship (according to the will of the Cort pu Inalt). The Kingdom shall continue to represent and encourage peace between among all nations, Macro and Micro in nature.

This elimination also removes things such as the absolutely crazy but fun concept of using cupped bedposts as weapons for the Zouaves, the Royal Navy, and the Air Force. I can personally say that the Royal Navy has been planning an expedition. With this bill, they might as well sit on their couches.

There is absolutely zero risk that Talossa will ever engage in violent conflict, and by law, anyone doing so loses their citizenship. The final portion of El Lex I states exactly what I believe S:reu Tzaracomprada is after: "The Kingdom shall continue to represent and encourage peace between among all nations, Macro and Micro in nature."

Never mind the fact that the bill eliminates an entire Title of El Lex without relettering, which makes a bit of a mess for the scribe who now would have to figure out if the law should move from Titles H to J or resetter or something else.

Should this bill be passed by the Ziu, I intend to veto it.

I like the anthem. Is the plan to use the fanfare at the beginning and then the instrumental version?

Wittenberg / Re: [Royal] Media Opportunity

Folks, let's take a breath here and relax. No one is saying we will do anything at all. What we are doing is the responsible thing and presenting to the kingdom something that was brought to us to consider. Threats of renunciation are not helpful when no one is being forced to do anything. I felt it was my duty as your king to bring to your attention something that could be a benefit and could be a not so good thing.

For starters, we do know the name of the AI company, but the media company that approached us asked to avoid using its name publicly to avoid what they termed "spiking the press" in advance of any possible announcements. There is nothing nefarious there.

I firmly believe I would have been shirking my duties if I had simply ignored this possibility because sometimes ideas that seem wacky or out of left field can spark creative approaches. Maybe we don't use their idea but it gets someone thinking of another new or novel thing that will keep making Talossa great! Love the idea or leave it behind, it is up to the kingdom. I have no personal stake in the matter. Let's have a reasonable discussion and not throw out fear before we even have all the facts.

The big story is not the AI, but the media exposure for Talossa. The worlds press will train its attention on the first ever country to have an AI minister. That seems pretty cool to me. Beside that, what do you think this AI will do? Take over everything? It will be a novelty. Allow Max to answer some questions at the very least. I'm not saying we should do it, but we should keep an open mind.
