Wittenberg / Re: I renounce my citizenship.

Well that is deeply unfortunate. Braneu, if you still read this: you are a great addition to the Talossan community. I'm very sad to see you leave.

I'm assuming this is because of something politics related that happened partly or mostly behind the scenes and involves people caring way too much about partisan politics and personal grudges?

* noting that: a) Vuode is already the province with the fewest citizens b) There is no compensation provided for the reduced catchment area c) There is no indication this proposal carries support in Vuode (the Vuodean senator voted against)

I'm fine with this proposal.

As for the option of giving seats to whoever asks, townhall style, I suppose that would work for our current participation rates, but my one concern would be that citizens who are not active are also not getting represented. Perhaps an inbetween variant would be that people can claim a seat for themselves but alternatively appoint someone to receive an extra seat on their behalf (up to a certain limit).

Well if we let it be conducted by the chancery we should probably follow chancery rules. Personally I have no objection to the write-in thing. It's preferable if voters select a declared candidate, but I believe voters should be trusted to make that decision (and candidates do get listed on the ballot).

I support this proposal.

Quote from: Sir Txec dal Nordselvă, UrB on December 03, 2023, 09:21:28 AMI would argue this proposed law violates the third covenant.

QuoteTalossans have the right to freely organize political parties and other organizations, subject to their own laws of membership, and this right may not be abridged except with regards to organizations which advocate the use of violence or intimidation to attain political or other ends, or which seek to restrain any person or group of people from the exercise of their rights as granted under these Covenants.

I would strongly disagree. We're not talking about the right to be a party officer. Anyone has that right. We are talking about requirements for secretary of state. This is a government function. It's is perfectly valid for the ziu to set restrictions on who can hold such a position. If this proposal were to pass anyone would still be free to become a party officer. They just could not also be sos. Super broad interpretations of convenants are dangerous, because it reduces the ability of the ziu and the people to hold the government accountable. The convenants should protect citizens from the state, not the other way round.

Boo

Edit: I think Braneu will make a great seneschal.  Just dont think the bipartisan decision to muzzle parliamentary democracy is a good idea.

We already have a perfectly good committee to discuss orglaw reforms: it's called the Ziu. (And as it happens no orglaw amendment will pass it without the approval of members of either party anyway.)

Quote from: xpb on October 25, 2023, 02:07:29 PMThanks for your involvement and recruitment efforts.

Something that could support your second point in some fashion would be to amend or change the CAG to reflect the concept that other provinces have adopted: That anyone wishing to claim a seat in the assembly in those places may merely state that they have interest, and hot have a elected body but one composed similar to a town hall.
I could see myself supporting that

Cézembre / Anyone want to represent MRPC in l'Etats?
October 23, 2023, 11:34:44 AM
There's a slim, but greater than zero chance the MRPC accidentally gets more than 6 seats in l'Etats, whereas I can only assign 6 seats to myself. Should that happen I'd like to be able to fill these seats, if possible, in accordance with the constitution.

For the moment, the MRPC basically wants two things:

- Rules for provincial elections should be set by law and not be made up on the spot

- Considering the current levels of provincial activity it is probably best if senate elections are conducted by the chancery for the time being.

If you agree with those two points and are willing to represent the MRPC in l'Etats alongside myself for the coming term let me know BEFORE the end of the etats elections.

I appreciate the clear direction of the Mençei in conducting the election of his successor and now this vote.

I believe it would be wise to wait with electing a new Mençei until all provinces are represented. It should be noted that my own election is also possibly being reviewed in court (although so far without any injunctions preventing me from voting). I vote yes.

I'd like to register the Moderate Radical Party of Cézembre (MRPC) for the etats elections.

If that's not possible I'd like to register myself as a candidate, (although I maintain that in such case it's still possible to assign seats to other individuals than myself in accordance with the constitution, which also means it's at least theoretically possible to receive more than 6 seats and fill all of them).

I think it's important the constitution is followed, but I've said what I wanted to say about it, and I don't intend to seek an injunction. I agree with Sir X Pol that if someone were to challenge the election in court it's preferable if they do so before rather than after.
