Archery is a great hobby but it can also be dangerous. Follow these simple rules to keep yourself and others safe.

1. Only point a bow and arrow in a safe direction.

2. Only nock an arrow when it's safe to shoot.

3.Be aware of your target and what is in front, immediately behind and beyond it.

4. Only shoot when you have a safe range and a safe backstop or background.

5.Never loose a bow without a nocked arrow. This may damage the bow and can injure the archer.

6. Do not shoot arrows straight into the air.

7. Wear protective equipment when shooting.

8. Use caution when handling arrows.

9. Inspect equipment prior to each use. Repair or replace any worn or broken equipment immediately.

10. Store archery tackle in a safe and secure manner.

Quick note, if you want to shoot more than the 2 or 3 matches you most certainly can. The only thing I ask is that when you decide to start your competition, score consecutive matches. Don't score one match and then skip the next one because you shot poorly and score the match after that. Score 2 or 3 matches in a row. You can definitely keep shooting if you want.

Also forgot to tell you to post your scores in this thread. Only one archer needs to post the scores. No need to double post so figure out who's posting the scores.

How the hell do you say "kicker" in Talossan?!

I struggle with Talossan. I look up "kick" because I know that's going to be there. It's a verb, great. How do I make it a noun?

Before you lambast me, I know little to nothing about language.

I'd love to learn Talossan but I have no idea what any Las Recomendas says. I see a lot of words that my brain can't comprehend.

Trying to learn a language from a written guide is impossible for me. I need to hear the language being spoken in order for me to get it.

Fora Talossa does a decent job of providing audio lessons. I'm a big fan of Fora Talossa and what they're doing but the audio stuff is just decent...and not very helpful. I'd like a more conversational approach to learning Talossan.

My county will be called Manáweg County. Actually, that brings up an interesting point.

First, are we using the English "county" or the Talossan "cuntat"? Second, does the county bit go before or after the name? Is it Manáweg County, County Manáweg, Cuntat Manáweg or Manáweg Cuntat? Or is it something like Cuntat del Manáweg? Fost, is Manáweg feminine? Cuntat dal Manáweg?

I'm working on a glossary of archery terms in Talossan. Some of the terms have been easy to find while others are a bit more problematic.

Archery is typically shot in "rounds" with each round consisting of multiple "ends". I don't know what term would best be used for a round and an end. Your help is greatly appreciated.

We will be using the Archery Club app for this month's virtual shoot.

You can use any equipment that have however, boosters are prohibited.

Each pairing will have one week to post their scores. You can post your scores below.

If an archer is unable to shoot for any reason within the one week time frame, they must forfeit the game and points will be awarded to their competitor. If both archers are unable to shoot within the one week time frame, no points will be awarded.


Each game will be contested under "best of three" rules. Therefore, each game must have a minimum of two matches.

Each match will consist of two rounds. If the scores are tied after two rounds, there is a third tiebreaker round.


One point will be awarded for each round won.

A bonus point will be awarded for a "shutout" (i.e. one archer winning the first two rounds of a match).

Maximum points awarded per match = 3 points.



The top two archers this month will compete head to head in Week Four to decide the Toxophilite Club's TOP SHOT for the month of September.

I still think we should each pick a county and do what we want with it.

As for naming conventions, I think each county should have at least one township with a Talossan name.

Should we pick a township to act as our provincial capital? We should probably decide what our provincial capital is called, too. ;D

My current bow is a Howard Hill "Half-breed" longbow. I inherited it from my father. It's listed as 55lbs at 28 inches but I think it's getting tired. It's a nice bow but it's getting old and I'm thinking of getting a new one. I'll probably get a longbow from 3 Rivers Archery but I've also been looking at the horse bows sold by Seven Meadows and Saluki.

As for the locked topic, that's basically the "welcome page" for the club. I'll be adding some more info later.

Traditional archery is often defined by the equipment used. The most common bows used for traditional archery are the longbow and the recurve bow. While the longbow is often associated with traditional archery, the recurve bow is considerably more popular.

The longbow and recurve bow might be the most common bows used today but they are not the only options. The history of archery goes back thousands of years and cultures around the world have developed their own archery traditions and equipment. From the simple "selfbow" to the more complex Asiatic "horse bow", traditional archery takes many forms. The Toxophilite Club embraces all of these archery traditions and encourages it's members to explore those traditions.

Obviously, each county should have a name. I'd like one of the counties along the river because I want to name mine "Manáweg" after the Milwaukee River.

I like the idea of county colours. I don't think we need to have a common colour. As they say, "Variety is the spice of life". (:

I don't know if you can just add traditions to anything. I think those develop over time. You can certainly "plant the seeds" of tradition. I leave that up to you and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I certainly think we should each have a county symbol. If you want to select an animal, I have no issue with that.

I have a lot of ideas about this but I need to get those ideas in order before I share them.

The flag is based on imagery from the TV show "Firefly". If I remember correctly, when I suggested the idea, the star was point up. Can't remember why it got flipped.

I completely agree that every county have a flag and possibly a coat of arms or something like that. Gives us the opportunity to do something creative with our province.

I think that each of us (given that there appears to be 5 active Fiôvâns) should get a county to "play with". If you have your heart set on one, I have no problem with you taking it Bråneu.
