when nazis took over the rest of czecho-slovakia in march 1939, establishing protektorat böhmen und mähren, they also devised a new CoA with both heraldic animals, the two-tailed lion of bohemia and the checkered eagle of moravia, looking like a wet cat and flabby hen, intentionally making it different from the traditional, combative, way they were depicted (e.g., the lion looks like being neutered, as the testicle is covered with some cross-hatching). they also ordered that no other form of the CoA is acceptable.

i used to be in the times of the republic organised in l'icastolâ (and was twice cultmini), and had a minor contribution to the el glheþ reform in those times. still interested in talossán, but far from actively.

personally, i do not see any problem, even in the case of not-so-deep-into-langs users of talossán, to maintain just a single ending -ar, without distinguishing the role.

if to pick smth else, i do not like the -ár solution; it is non-systematic and even more confusing. the good ol' -arh is sufficiently silly and traditional to my taste (also, it at least somehow points on the pronunciation), but i see why it gets no points neither for beauty nor for systematicity. -arë seems to be the best of the proposed solutions if it comes to aesthetics and function hinting, but it still does not feel right.

i can imagine getting [ʃ] from [ɻh] or [ɹ̠h] through [s̠], it is just a movement of the tip of a tongue in potential pronunciation shift. but i see, it is some old benian peculiarity preserved we have to deal with, i suppose.

could not talossa have some kind of royal non-human manifestation, which would be a titular head of state, sacred symbol, spiritual leader, popular figure, and attractive force? i would recommend a cat. it's already worked once, to quote the classics (cimrman, svěrák & smoljak - play czech heaven [české nebe]). so many problems would it solve, so much of a cuteness would it bring 8)

what if i offer a different reading? king's neglect of his rightful duties allows certain party and person to exert criticism of supposedly bad government performance, which, in fact, was directly caused or at least coerced by that royal neglect.

i am tired of the TNC bullshitting. i very much have difficulties understanding the right conservative american mentality, which to me is a hurricane of chaotic kicking around without a shred of real plans for what to do in society. bunch of mental boomers dressed in noble chasuble, waving traditionality sceptres and hurling threats and empty promises. when they are reminded about these empty promises, they start to whine that they are attacked and forced to fulfil them :o oh, meine lieben götter! die ... die bedrängen uns! die verleumden uns! :) they would rather drag the whole society into an abyss than admit that something wrong is wandering around.

i really miss the popcorn smiley here; it would be very handy in talossan debates.

i have the definitive version of AoE2 from steam, but played it for the last time two years ago. i was more into paradox games (CK, HoI or stellaris) or age of wonders (almost any version, but no.1 was my prrrrecious).

in this sense, i very much agree with you. talossa started as a CPG (country playing) game and later on it was played very seriously, but talossa in fact is not a country. (here i admit still continuing confusion about the use of the word "nation" in english, which very much differs from how do we use it in my central european culture. so i use the word "country" instead) i wholeheartedly agree that we should make talossa in this sense more realistic/practical/enjoyable to be able to let it live. otherwise, imho the country-fuel is burnt already and it gives no push for talossa to maintain some inertia to move through the time. our everyday lives cause friction and slow talossa down, we cannot give it all the attention it was possible 20 yrs ago, new citizens are often passive and again, the enthusiasm of playing country burns really quickly out.

i may share the experience of how we solved that problem in my other similar project, ark, but i will not to unless explicitly asked :) such experience need not be transferable. just a hint - culture ;)

well, i suffered equally reading about the political views of china miéville as about those of robert henlein. MIAHM was interesting, although a bit old-fashioned, story, but henlein generally did not take my heart or brain. i have to admit, i like more e.g. the verhoeven's parody on starship troopers than the original (which i found, unfortunately, to be boooring along with many other henlein's works).

may i know more about what "elements of governance from a canticle for leibowitz" you have on mind, eiric?

just to say, a canticle for leibowitz was for me a kind of reader's revelation, the book so interesting that i was positively shocked to find that they posthumously published in 1997 the st. leibowitz and wild horse woman. and since then never understood why the second one is so underrated, cos it is at least as good as the first book. and because of lots of neology and future english, i made a private translation of it. later on, an official one was published here and it was a complete disaster. one may induce a new rule from this case: the more translators, the worse the outcome - three translators were assigned + one special language editor and the resulting horror is still kept in the memory of my generation of SF readers.

on mobile phone lawrence principe and his the secrets of alchemy as a source for my new course on alchemy, principe is a damn good historian and researcher in alchemy, smart, learnt and factual.

and two paper books, robert holdstock's lavondyss, a beautiful, dark and damn original piece of fantasy, and františek koukolík's mravenec a vesmír (an ant and the universe), quite sapid essays on science on different interesting topics across the different fields of science (his original field is in neuropathology).

hmmm... i cannot offer any pictures of our "myška" (the car is dark grey, so we call it "a little mouse"), as i have none and probably will never shoot any ;) for me as a villager, the car is a tolerated necessity, but no hobby and none of us enjoy driving. we use the car only cos of the lack of local transport. buses to the city go mostly once an hour and do not allow you to transport much of a stuff when needed, e.g., during the weekend we visited our parents-in-law (230 km, locally seen as a serious distance ;) and we took the car, cos we moved some stuff back (ca 100 kg), but usually we take the train. in a city, i use 100% mass transportation, also when travelling long distances with trains being the most preferred, buses then and car or planes as a last resort. we here enjoy the near-perfect system of urban mass transport (a dense net of buses, trolleybuses and tramways in a 400k city). in a densely packed central europe (there is a village each 6 km, smaller town each 25-35 km), the car has a much negligible role that in let's say australia or US of A with vast uninhabited areas.

enjoy the day of the automobile though :)

the beauty of being from central european, from a minination (10 M people), is that i can speak fluently five languages (czech, slovak, english, german, russian) and read in few more (spanish, polish, ukrainian) with almost no effort (joking, i practice some regularly, some irregularly, i knew some more, like finnish, estonian, latin, even sanskrit, but no practice means no knowledge today, just shards of this and that).

speaking fluently around ten+ languages is awesome and requires quite some practice. i would probably understand to a certain extent any slavonic language (except slovenian), i get bits in germanic and roman languages, but with no real necessity to use them, i would probably never improve beyond tens of words and pidgin-seized grammar or to keep the knowledge. and the same counts for my today's non-existent talossán, if there was any in past :) although, one can easily understand the expressive language of dame schivă :D

olol, the offer seems to be on the table since 2019, and, surprise, surprise, no one's buying. their webpages are pretty old-fashioned and kind of dead.

it looks to me like a fancy showcase only, an empty shell with some glitter on it - coins, ID cards, merch and media attention, but rather no detectable vital activity. never heard of them before (my bad, of course). honestly, talossa is much more vivid despite what we might think of it recently ;)

to sell such stuff for 50 kilobucks is a jolly wet dream :D

한글 rules :) i have to admit, even as a linguist, the script interests me a bit more than the language itself, although as a language isolate, it is certainly full of spicy stuff.

how do you keep the lang active? YT? online radios? movies? even i am able to get in a lang to a certain level of proficiency, without intensive practising it is detoriating rather quickly. i already said farewell to my estonian, finish and sanskrit, which langs i've learnt 10 yrs ago during my bachelor in general inguistics... sad, but true :-/
