OPR Conducts Readiness Exercises

The Office Of Preparedness and Response recently conducted a readiness exercise. From 2100Z 15 NOV 2020 to 2000Z 16 NOV 2020, OPR personnel tested our capability to function in an operational environment with confounding environmental factors with minimal power, equipment, and personnel. No serious deficiencies were noted, and minor issues with communications equipment were noted and have since been rectified. Practical training exercises in the mitigation of serious weather-related natural disasters were also conducted.

OPR would like to use this opportunity to remind the wider Talossan Defense Ministry and Talossan citizenry in general that preparedness is the responsibility of every service member and citizen, and that given the current issues facing Talossans at home and around the world, we all must do our part. Combatting the novel coronavirus is an utmost priority for OPR and we lend our invincible moral support to those on the front lines. If there is any aid OPR personnel may lend to the Talossan civilian government, Talossan citizens, or Cestours in our area of operations, we stand ready and willing to assist. MOD personnel are advised to send their requests via normal channels.

I think that would look quite good, honestly. Is there a possibility of including an officer's sword?

I haven't been in the job very long, but in the event it sheds some light on the issue at hand this is the rough process I use.

1. Does the profile exist and is it something I can access? I had a case recently where an applicant sent a link that was behind a login page, and one where they sent a dead link citing privacy concerns. The first case ended up being reviewed by Ministreu Grischun, and the second refused to provide further information was was thus rejected.

2. Does the name match? If not, as has also happened recently, I send out a request for further information.

3. What site is the account on, how old is it, and how active is it? This is the critical one. While sure, it is possible to make fake accounts on legit sites that have enough activity to look real, it's quite difficult. The date accounts are created is generally pretty public, and it'd take a lot of work to make an account years in advance and then seed it with activity. If an account is new or doesn't look legit, then I'll ask for further info. or forward the case up to Ministreu Grischun

4. At any point if I'm not confident it's legit I'll request further information or forward the case to Ministreu Grischun. I've bothered him more than a few times with specific cases or unusual issues. Generally, people don't have that much of an issue with providing the requisite info, and if they're cagey those are forwarded.

Thank you sir. It's an honor to be extended the opportunity to serve the King, Country, and Corps.

The Webspace / Re: Discord shoutbox

I haven't done anything development wise with Discord, so I'm not that familiar with the API though I can take a look.

I'm an admin on a server or two though, and issues like voice channels occasionally not letting people join until the server gets moved to a different region is somewhere between a daily to weekly occurrence.

It's broken for me on a fork of Chrome mobile also, though it works fine on the most recent build of Chrome desktop.

I'm also guessing it's an issue with the embed though the Discord API itself is quite temperamental and has an irritating tendency to just stop working, so it could possibly be on thier end.

Personally I've never used the shoutbox as a basically have Discord running 24/7, so I'll see it whether it's working or not.

I do, if Arma 3 counts (and I'd think it would).

It does make sense to me to make that role a PermSec, though.

I might dig out my DAW and try to get something that's not basically a demo, but we'll see. I have some other plans up my sleeve, but we'll see where that goes.

Quoting from another thread, so as to not have that thread move from it's intended purpose to politics

Question: do you really want to overthrow not only the monarchy, but the whole system of government? Please be assured that IMHO those are perfectly valid opinions! But it's been a while since someone has suggested literal anarchy in Talossa. For many of us the system of government - even, for some, the Monarchy - are an essential part of the fun.
I would like to hear the answer to this.

I am unable to confirm or deny these allegations at this time.
That's too bad.  I don't think we should be immigrating anyone who vows to overthrow our government or who says they'll essentially be lying with their citizenship oath.  I hope that, unless this is clarified a bit, that someone will exercise Section 8 on this application.

S:reu Burman, do you intend to try to overthrow the government?

I no longer call myself an anarchist, though my political leanings are still fairly far left. It's not my intent to get into a debate about anarchism outside of Talossa, but I am curious about how an anarchist Talossa would look and what we'd do.

I also want to finish my thought about S:reu Burman's immigration. I'm sure I could be schooled about the history of Talossan politics by those that have been here a lot longer than myself, but it seems like there is precedent for far-left political activity in Talossa. The wiki is fairly light on information, but there was a Talossan Socialist Party that existed as recently as the 46th Cosa, as well as a few others during the Ben era. Like I said in his immigration thread, so long as S:reu Burman will approach any planned otherthrow of the government via legal means and not otherwise break El Lex or the Organic Law, I have no problems with his immigration.

I feel kinda cheated that I didn't get to play with the new system and got mine the old-fashioned way. It looks very well done!

I might be interested, though I have no experience with tabletop RPGs.

Wittenberg / Re: Do we want fewer subforums?
September 18, 2020, 02:47:19 PM
I can see this going both ways. There's something to be said for keeping things organized, but you also don't want to have things too spread out.

If I understand the point of the Landing Pier from the Republic correctly, in that it was a private subforum for citizens and those that requested access, that makes a lot of sense to me

Whatever else, I would say that I agree with moving the fun stuff more into the public eye. If all I saw was the discussions that happen in Wittenberg, I might not stick around. Some people like a good debate, myself included, but that's not all Talossa's about.
