WHEREAS our immigration information disclosure practices fail the 'reasonable person' test in that a reasonable person would not assume that information provided to Talossan Immigration in confidence would be posted in plain sight of Talossan citizens on Wittenberg, and
WHEREAS this practice only becomes known to prospective immigrants after they have provided their personal information by way of a contact form, and
WHEREAS some prospective immigrants would redact some elements from their application or possibly even decline to apply for citizenship in the first place if they were aware that their information will be posted on Wittenberg

THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED by the King, Cosâ and Senäts of Talossa in Ziu assembled that El Lexhátx E.11 shall be amended by addition of the following section:

11.5 At the time of the initial Immigration application, prior to submission of the form, the prospective shall be notified in writing that as part of the approval process their application will be posted on a forum where it can be viewed by existing citizens, excluding such personal contact information as their physical place(s) of residence, their email address(es), their phone number(s), and other details which are by law or which ought to be explicitly confidential.

The Webspace / [Wittenberg] Site Width
December 13, 2019, 09:53:28 AM
Azul,

I understand the benefit of reducing the margin space in the design. More concentration; less 'waste'.

But, I'm finding it more difficult to read posts now, and it's much harder to write them.

In the editor, sentences can stretch to nearly the full length of my 24" monitor.

Maybe it's just me. I'd be happy to hear from other folks on this matter.

Atatürk / Being Who You Are
December 13, 2019, 09:46:30 AM
As I've watched the signups start to increase on this new property, it occurred to me how I know far more transgender persons in this society than I do in my outside life, and events today made me wonder why that is.

Is there something more friendly about this environment? Or safe?

Does Talossa better respect our right to personal definition or self-determination? Or is it just a place offering a certain level of anonymity where there's a decreased risk in defining yourself in a way of your own choosing, with little fear of retaliation. So, some people take that chance.

I'd like to think that we do respect privacy and individual liberties, but I don't think it in this moment. I think our long and twisted history has really altered some of us to see the negative everywhere. Assume good faith? Whatever.

I really wanted to think of this place ("NewWitt" -- not a fan of the name) as a fresh start, but the same paranoia and drama is already creeping in.

...

With every login, there's silent math at work. Is this place giving back as much as I give it? Even if I'm just logging in to read -- is it worth it?

I keep logging in. I keep running for office. I keep paying for domains and server space to host services that might be useful to the Kingdom. Not that money is the issue in my life. I'm doing okay.

The important number in the math is time. Does the time I spend here add to my life or subtract from it?

Anyway, this isn't to dissuade anyone from becoming or remaining a citizen, nor being the person that they really define themselves as, here in this space. But I do understand why some people leave in a big, dramatic exit, while others just slip away quietly forever.

Anthem of the Peaceful Army
by Greta Van Fleet

https://open.spotify.com/album/7zeCZY6rQRufc8IHGKyXGX

I love these guys and, unlike many of the critics, have zero problems with their clear influences from Led Zeppelin and Rush. It's still the kind of music I would want from those bands if they were still producing.

Solid album. As good as but different from their double EP From The Fires.

Exception: the song "You're The One" is... terrible. Awful. Trite and embarrassing. But the rest of the record is great, and only better with repeated listening.

The Webspace / [Wittenberg] Adobe Flash

Azul,

My browser has just asked:
Do you want to allow an outdated version of
Adobe Flash to run on this site? An outdated
version can affect browser performance and
security.

What new function on the site relies on obsolete software?

The Webspace / [Wittenberg] Date and Time Display options
December 07, 2019, 10:11:01 AM
Azul,

Just a tip for people who dislike Witt's default display of date and time, which has leading zeroes in front of day of the month or hour of the day.

Visit this page:
https://wittenberg.talossa.com/index.php?action=profile;area=theme

Paste this line in the Time Format box:
%B %e, %Y, %l:%M %p

P.S. Here's a useful page that lists many time and date options:

What's to stop France from annexing you back? Is your barbed wire better quality? Are they unaware of your existence? Or just indifferent?

No, not really. But I couldn't stare at this empty page any longer.

How much does a one bedroom apartment rent for around here? I'm looking for a weekend escape destination and this place seems like a good place to relax.

And are we smoke-free now?

Atatürk / MST3K

In cultural news, I was disappointed to learn that after 1.5 seasons (they claim it's two) Netflix is cancelling their lightning-fast funny and well-cast* reboot of Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

Hopefully the new and original series will continue to run, but, if not (or if you're not a subscriber) here are a couple of places where you can watch episodes of the original series for free:
What a shame. Hopefully Hodgson can get it picked up somewhere else.

* Joel, Mike and Jonah are all likeable for different reasons. I like Hampton Yount's Crow T. Robot as much as I loved Trace Beaulieu's and much prefer Baron Vaughn's Tom Servo to Kevin Murphy's. Jim Mallon as Gypsy was always irritating as hell. Anyone could have done a better job.

The Webspace / [Wittenberg] Encryption
December 04, 2019, 03:10:46 PM
Sites with our host (DoRoyal) come with free https encryption provided by Let's Encrypt. Might want to update the Cpanel  and Site configuration to point at the encrypted address.

It's not that we do anything critical here; more than unencrypted sites rank lower on search engine results (or at least Google has threatened such).

The Webspace / [Wittenberg] BBCode weirdness
December 04, 2019, 01:39:27 PM
The implementation of BBCode seems incomplete or non-standard. I tried a few ways to re-size linked images and nothing worked.

https://www.bbcode.org/examples/?id=10

Example:

Standard image

Resizing the image
[img=100x50]https://www.bbcode.org/images/lubeck_small.jpg[/img]
Making the image clickable (in this case linking to the original image)

Resizing and adding meta information for the image
"Lubeck city gate" height="50"

The clickable function works, but not resizing and alt description.

Cold and Flu season is upon us and NeoCitran's green tea with citrus flavour is the cure for what ails me this week.  :o

Hope you're feeling better than I am.

(No, this is not a commercial. More like a PSA.)

Atatürk / Senator's Office - 54th Ziu
December 04, 2019, 01:21:10 PM
Welcome to our new home, Atatürkers,

While the new term starts, I'll be posting updates here on the new Wittenberg.

As in previous terms, this is a place to post questions or feedback on bills before the Ziu. By public post or private message, feel free to share Your thoughts on any matter.

In the absence of feedback, I will vote by my conscience. However, I am still answerable to You for any of my votes this term. If You have questions or concerns, I want to know.

Warmest regards,
