Running factoids on the BHAID's first decade

BHAID Factoids

This is not official effort just a personal initiative on an issue and organization for which I care. This thread is intended to raise awareness about the Bureau for Humanitarian Aid and International Development (BHAID) as we near the 10-year anniversary in October. I have been researching the BHAID and am honestly amazed at how deep the story is and how many people over time were involved.

As was mentioned in the Sense of the Ziu currently being considered in the Hopper the BHAID grew out of an organization called TalossaAID.

From TalossaWIKI:

TAID operate a humanitarian aid fund. All proceeds received are for charitable purposes in line with the mission statement, aims and values of the group. Administrative costs are personally met by members of the executive board. The first initiatives that this fund paid out to where in support of the Tibetan government-in-exile and to Kiva , which allows donations to low-risk micro-loans which help aspiring entrepreneurs in poor and/or underdeveloped areas.

From 2009-2011, the executive board of TalossaAID were myself, Flip Molinar, and Istefan Lorentzescu. Istefan Lorentzescu played a major organizational role in 2011 before the organization went dormant.

It is important to note though, Talossa's humanitarian organizations, private or public, predate the existence of the BHAID by years. This strain of Talossa's humanitarianism, inclusive of TalossaAID and BHAID, stretches back 16 (!) years.

In October 2015, the Bureau for Humanitarian Aid and International Development launched its first fundraising campaign. It was dedicated to raising funds for victims of the Syrian Civil War, especially those who became refugees or were displaced internally.

From the BHAID website:

Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Assistance

According to estimates from the United Nations, in 2014 alone, more than 60 million people were driven from their homes by violence and instability. That is 1 in every 122 people worldwide.

For our inaugural fundraising drive we have decided to focus on assistance for refugees and internally displaced persons. Europe and the Near East, in particular, are experiencing the largest episode of population displacement since World War II. Anyone who has been familiar with global news reports is aware of the crisis as thousands find the dangerous depths of the Mediterranean Sea safer than the firm soil of former homelands. With your help and grace Talossa can make a difference.
