Moana is my favorite Disney movie and one of the favorite movies of my daughters.  Do your kids like it, too?

Françală loves all Disney princesses, especially Moana, but of course people from my country have a pre-existing relationship with Māui as an indigenous culture hero/demigod - the island I live on is in fact Te Ika a Māui, "Maui's fish". We were brought up on tales of him stealing the secret of fire from his grandmother, capturing the very Sun to extend the working day, etc. And of course the shocking story of his final adventure with the Goddess of Death (you must be over 18).

The Disney movie doesn't paint him a very good light, but like many trickster culture heroes he's destructive as often as he is helpful. In pop culture terms he's probably got a better rap than his Norse equivalent Loki.
