I'm really glad that I never became a politician, good God.

You think this is bad? This is friendly chit-chat compared to politics in KR1's time or just after Reunision.

The heat level rises when there's a strong Opposition, because there's something at stake. The problem is that the alternative is a boring one-party state, which some have incorrectly accused me of wanting.

I dont mind strong opposition, more viewpoints = more good.

What I *do* mind though, and I'm neither the first not the last person to come to this conclusion, is that everyone here is either a politician or seemingly AWOL.

This is precisely why I've been pushing for more Permanent Secretaries, people who "do jobs" in Talossa but apolitically. Unfortunately all those people quit, leaving only the political partisans.

The last Permanent Secretary of Immigration told me it was a "thankless task". What kind of "thanks" could we give to non-political civil servants? Apart from the obvious, i.e. medals?

To be honest, if I had anything more constructive to offer than a gut feeling like "thank God I'm not a part of this", I wouldve already offered it. Its jarring to go from complete radio silence for months on end to what is currently going on, all within 24 hours.

It is a thankless task, but, personally, I've gotten great satisfaction just knowing that my service has been useful.
