'JFK' are the initials of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, a U. S. President assassinated on 22 November 1963.  He is still referred informally by his initials as are a number of other U. S. Presidents (all Democrats, oddly-enough).  John's younger brother, Bobby (Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy) was also referred to by his initials.

Descended from Joe and Rose Kennedy, the Kennedy family is from the American state of Massachussets and seemed to have been cursed with untimely or horrific deaths over the years.  JFK's son, JFK Jr., was killed in a plane crash in his thirties.  The Kennedy name is still a powerful political force in Massachussets.
