In group 5 Im a bit sad I don't have points left for Falco. That is nothing compared to group 6 however. Strongest group so far. 8 songs really deserve points. That includes two new discoveries. As weird as it is I kinda like Mork and Mindy. Everybody Knows is my favourite discovery so far this year though, and it would be surprising if that still changed before the end of this round. It's hilariously dark. Mozart also deserves points obviously, as the Requiem is one of the most beautiful pieces ever composed, but on the other hand, I still think it would be better if parts of it were nominated separately. That still leaves an impossible choice. In particular the 1 point could easily have been replaced with one of the others if I were in a different mood.

GROUP 6

2 - Jason Boland and the Stragglers - Devil Pays In Gold
1 - Amadou & Mariam (feat. Manu Chao) - Sénégal Fast Food

We should give Still Into You status as a patriotic song, given its connection to the Organic Law. Make me your first preference for Seneschal and you might get a PD to that effect.

A bit late perhaps, but is it still possible to replace the video for How Soon Is Now with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PIi1LWkfDE

I just realised there are some bits missing from the other one.

10. Mork n Mindy - 0 (random chance)

Observations
-Frank Sinatra gets both of his songs through Group 5, while Der Kommissar and Sénégal Fast Food tie for the most 1-point votes (each with five).
-CHVRCHES' run in this TMT20 has come to a soggy end. Both of their songs came in 10th place in their group.
-Group 6 has an absolutely wild six-way tie for second-most points. None of the eliminations were based on random chance, although a lot of the rest of the ordering was.
-Elettrochoc and Mork n Mindy are the first songs to get zero points.
-New songs did not fare well in either group. Only one advanced in Group 5 (Der Kommissar), and none advanced in Group 6 (partially due to the tiebreaker based on prior year result).

Round 1 of the Talossan Music Top 20 - 2022!
Many thanks to everyone who nominated songs. Of course, people who did not are still very welcome to participate.

Round 1 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 2 (and are given entry into next year's TMT20).

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place song from a Round 2 group last year, 4-5 new nominations, and 0-1 songs eliminated by random chance in Round 1 last year.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top three songs 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three songs.

GROUP 7
Adult Cinema - Dreamt The Other Night
Bachman-Turner Overdrive - My Wheels Won't Turn
Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan
Charlie Parker - Cool Blues
Coldplay - Fix You
Derek and the Dominos - Layla
Earth, Wind and Fire - September
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
Jason Boland and the Stragglers - If I Ever Get Back to Oklahoma
Kool & The Gang - Celebration

GROUP 8
Cardigans - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Clamavi De Profundus - The Song of Durin
Hooverphonic - Out of Sight
Passion Pit - Take a Walk
Pearl Jam - Rearviewmirror
Portugal. The Man - Live in the Moment
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Supertramp - School
System of a Down - Chop Suey!
Tom Waits - God's Away on Business

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (Round 2 > other)
- Random chance

Any song eliminated by random chance (and any song eliminated by random chance last year that is eliminated based on last year's result) will be given entry into next year's TMT20.

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

What an absolute nightmare result.  :'( Could hardly have gone worse. (And I fear group 7&8 might end up not much better)

Oh well, it's nice that so many people are voting though. Would be great if we could even get to 12 or 13 later on...
