Sure thing. Whether it works is another matter.

My guess is most people would be like me and be inclined to vote against anyone who lobbied.

Round 1 of the Talossan Music Top 20 - 2025!

Many thanks to everyone who nominated songs. Of course, people who did not are still very welcome to participate.

Round 1 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 2 (and are given entry into next year's TMT20).

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 6th 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place song from a Round 2 group last year, and 5 new nominations.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top three songs 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three songs.

GROUP 5
Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever
Christian Collin - Day to Day
Desireless - Voyage Voyage
Dropkick Murphys - I'm Shipping Up To Boston
Editors - Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors
Gazpacho - The Walk
George Harrison - Beautiful Girl
Looking Glass - Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)
Mariya Takeuchi - Plastic Love
Rush - Subdivisions

GROUP 6
Agnes Obel - Riverside
All That Remains - The Thunder Rolls
Antelopen Gang - Pizza
Aphex Twin - Avril 14th
Eagles - Lyin' Eyes
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Gaelic Storm - One More Day Above the Roses
Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Supertramp - Fool's Overture
UVB76 - Hajime

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (Round 2 > Other)
- Last year's Round 2 Rank
- Last year's Round 2 PPV
- Year first nominated (special edition > earlier > later)
- Random chance

Any song eliminated by random chance (and any song eliminated by random chance last year that is eliminated based on last year's result) will be given entry into next year's TMT20.

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

Group 5:

Picking between these songs was harsh, and judging by the votes so far the results will be pretty harsh as well.

Subdivisions is a very good song with poignant lyrics. I love the anger in the first synthesizer chords, I love the bass and I especially love the drums. Not giving any points is a crime, and yet here we are.

Voyage Voyage is super catchy and reminds me of driving to France on vacation last year, which incidentally will be happening again in two weeks. It's also my third most played song last year according to spotify.

The Walk is a song based on the book of some guy who crashed his plane in the desert. It's a tale about finding beauty even in a hopeless situation. I love the buildup, the way the middle section captures the desolateness of the desert, and I really love the payoff at the end which make the full 14 minutes well worth listening to.

"The long haul back
In no direction
And no one knows we're ok
And the curve of the horizon
A masterpiece
Survival on adrenaline it's over soon
Doesn't everyone have their own walk to walk"

And yet, I can't give full points to that, because there is also Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors. I'm a sucker for this kind of music. It's both melancholic and yet very exciting. Seeing Editors live is still one of the most enjoyable concerts Ive ever been to. They are so good. The singer has an amazing voice. Also when the choir joins in it's pure bliss.

Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors - 3
The Walk - 2
Voyage Voyage - 1
HM: Subdivisions

Group 6: Also quite strong

Fools Overture - 3
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - 2
Riverside - 1
HM: Take Me Out

I also found Pizza to be quite amusing (Thin crust is very much ok.) and I enjoyed April 14th as well.
