Azul,

I see that various Talossans who have been elevated to the knighthood have been granted helms and/or mottos to add to their Coat of Arms. Can I inquire as to whether it would be appropriate to ask to be granted one or both of these at the next Day of Honors, and  if so, if I could have the assistance of the College in rendering them?

Every knight is entitled to a motto, as well as to have their arms adorned with helm and belt. While we wait on the Dean, do you have a motto in mind?

TXEC R, by the Grace of God, King of Talossa and of all its Realms and Regions, King of Cézembre, Sovereign Lord and Protector of Pengöpäts and the New Falklands, Defender of the Faith, Leader of the Armed Forces, Viceroy of Hoxha and Vicar of Atatürk

In the past, knights have adopted a helm or motto when they pleased.  These things may be granted by His Majesty, but need not be, if you're already sure.  I am sure we can find someone to assist you with the emblazonment.

There is some tradition regarding the helm: for a knight, it should be a closed helm in profile.

For my motto I would like to adopt "Misce stultitiam consiliis brevem", a quotation from Horace's Odes that roughly translates as "Mix a little foolishness with your prudence". From what I can tell, this is the first instance of what would eventually become the English saying "A little bit of whimsy now and then is cherished by the wisest men".

The traditional rendering of the helm and UrN belt would be fantastic.

Dulce est desipere in loco!  I am sure the Coletx can oblige.
