Connection not politics as culture
The Green Party believes that a truly vibrant nation depends not only on the health of its political institutions, but also on the flourishing of its culture, community, and shared identity. Politics is an essential part of national life, yet when it dominates every conversation with a near-unending season, it can overshadow the deeper bonds that make Talossa unique—a rich heritage of creativity, humor, civic imagination, and friendship across borders. When I was Seneschal I did work on a project called the National Skills and Social Connections Survey parallel to the Census. Along with the Talossa Talks project it represented a continuing effort to build "connection as culture" into our national being.

By extending the time between elections, we create room for "connection as culture" as a broader, more balanced national rhythm. Our Seneschal once described Talossa's political cycle as one that moves in "dog years." Talossa is a nation of humans not dogs (for better or worse as dogs are lovely creatures lol). Our promises in politics are unrealistic because the time scales themselves are not realistic. This reform would encourage citizens to invest their energy in projects that unite rather than divide us: cultural creation, artistic expression, linguistic revival, historical preservation, and community engagement. These activities can and likely would remind us that Talossa is not simply a place for politicians to flex their latest campaign skills or theories, it is not a parliament or a ballot box—it is a living culture based on more than the same panorama of political personalities. Yours truly included.

A longer period between elections also reduces political burnout and the constant cycle of campaign competition, allowing for a more thoughtful and sustainable approach to governance. It fosters continuity, reflection, and collaboration rather than reaction and partisanship.

We envision a Talossa where political life serves cultural life—not the other way around. By nurturing an expanded apolitical culture, we reaffirm that our nation's strength lies in what we build together: shared experiences, enduring friendships, and the creative spirit that has always defined the Talossan people. Politics is a conduit, a tool, but it is not a sufficient basis for a nation's entire culture.

We support fixed, annual (read: predictable and slightly less frequent) election cycles. Like the World Series starting in October we want to see a Talossan Election every January.

We do not believe that Baron Davinescu should be the next Seneschal precisely because of this paranoid, accusatory way of dealing with political opponents. His practice is to throw around accusations of criminality and corruption first, demand investigations, then grudgingly take them back - after they have done their work reducing their targets to nervous wrecks. This is a long pattern of behaviour going back at least a decade, and I can give citations.

When our politics reduces people to nervous wrecks we really need to stop and think. Miestra I hope you are getting the help and support you need for the apparent effects of the Baron's accusations against you.

The Green Party supports more space for a cool down from the tumult of election time. We reiterate our call for longer Cosa terms in a predictable annual cycle.

Anyway, Part two. The tactic to deal with an opponent who just tells arrant falsehoods, stokes up moral panics, and then resorts to "you can't get angry, I'm just a smol bean, a little birthday boy, contradicting me doesn't does fun!" is to say to voters: consider the source.

I, uh, don't think I voted for you or Alexandreu to call me a sex pest, a verpa, or being a resident of Predator's Alley. I didn't vote in support of your toxic and destructive words which have yet to be called out.

If you are suddenly against moral panics then you are welcome to denounce the one you stirred up for months.

Here's the explanation from the Most Honourable Seneschal for why she lobbied her party to kill the bill:

The Baron put the Public Process Bill in the Hopper at the height of his dudgeon ... I made one snide comment, then more or less ignored it. I hoped he would calm down about it and it would go by the wayside; so I was disappointed that he took it to the CRL for the Sixth Clark. It was clearly too late by then to make further principled arguments against it. So, I just decided to lobby my party to vote against it.

Let me say this right now:  If I am fortunate enough to get the support to lead our amazing little country, I won't be turning away anyone's help.

• If you present a bill fixing an important issue, I'll vote for it.  Even if you're not in my party.  If I don't agree with the bill, I'll work with you to amend it.  If that's not possible, I'll try to fix it myself in my own version.  We won't ignore it or fight it, just out of partisanship.
• If you pose a terpelaziun identifying a problem, I will listen to you.  And if you're right, I'll try to fix that problem.  I won't always succeed.  Some problems are difficult and thorny.  But we'll try, and we'll commiserate together if we fail.
• If I fall short in representing Talossa, speaking intemperately, I will apologize.  And I'll try to do better.  I'm only human, but one of the best things about being human is that we can always try to improve.
• If you want to help the country with something, or you have an idea, or you have a question: we'll be there to try to help you.  We're all in this little community together, and we can all help make it a great place to be.
• If you remind me of this pledge when I have broken it, I will thank you for the reminder.  And I'll try again.

Bookmarking this...both for Miestra's admission of lobbying her party to vote against an obvious fix for the issue she is now under attack for. And also for Alexandreu's incorrect claim (based on the URL/Progressive Alliance Joint Statement) that he won't turn away anyone's help.

@Françal I. Lux , you were around at least one of the times he did this before - during the Proclamation Crisis. Do you remember how he almost got the Secretary of State - now the King - to renounce his citizenship? Do you remember how I had to take six months off Talossa because his smear campaign/moral panic had meant I had to take sleeping pills to function?

And yes, I'm sorry to say, I do have personal animosity towards the Baron. I'm not ashamed of it. Thankfully, you can work constructively with someone despite personal animosity.

What seems clear from the exchanges between Alexandreu and Miestra is that she needs a break but does not know how to take one. And that she is doing Michalgh and the URL no favors with her prominence in this campaign.

The Greens support less of this type of campaigning and more time to actually govern. Miestra, please get your well-deserved rest.
