Appointments to the Cabinet

By the authority granted me by Org.VI.3, I would like to ask His Majesty, the King of Talossa, to appoint some select few to assist with the work of government.  These shall serve in the Cabinet, and I know they will serve with honour.  Many of these individuals have already planned out their goals, while others will have work enough in the days to come.

As I set about this task, I wish to express my gratitude to them for agreeing to serve their fellow citizens.  Our officials serve without pay and without pomp, enduring criticism and tedium for the joy of seeing a vision realized and a trust fulfilled. Thank you, my friends. And thank you to the people of Talossa, for believing in a bright future to come.

þerxh Sant-Enogat, Mençei and senator for Cézembre, immigrated only a couple of years ago.  And yet in that short time, he has become indispensable.  He has become a leader and organizer, founding the Progressive Alliance and serving as its guiding conscience, as well as the architect of our symbolism and style.  He has been one of the most important leaders of his province.  And he has happily contributed to the success of others in his role as Permanent Secretary of Propaganda.  I am incredibly grateful that he rose up in a dark hour to continue the fight for good government, even when things looked their darkest -- remember that first vote for the Progs, þerxh, with 7.5% of the vote?

Senator Sant-Enogat has graciously agreed to serve as Distain.  This is a catch-all position, with tasks and responsibilities yet to come.  We have projects and plans, and I am grateful that Senator Sant-Enogat will be there to share them with me.  Thank you, þerxh.

Immigration has been one of the most important topics to me for a long time, and that remains no less true now.  We have seen long periods of doldrums, spanning months at a time, followed by lucky strikes with media that led to short booms.  We must find a sustainable path and figure out a plan for the future.

We will continue some of the good work of the previous administration, which fulfilled some of our requests to simplify the immigration form.  The entire process needs a top-to-bottom fresh look, and we need to implement the recommendations of the royal commission.

I also pledge that we will work tirelessly to pass our flagship Public Process Act, new and improved with feedback by MC Tafial of the URL that gives it some real teeth.  And we will look back at applications from the past, to see if there were any problems in the past.  Hopefully, there will be none, and we can move forward with this reform and fear none in the future.

Due to the importance of this role, I will take it on, although I will be looking for a permanent secretary to assist.

Françal I. Lux was very active in Talossa for a long while, but was drawn away by life.  Now he is back, gloriously back -- and returning to politics with a moral courage that we see too seldom.  It's one thing to take a loud, principled stand against your enemies... but against your friends?  Now that is something worthy indeed!

MC Lux has shown us that courage, and also that he will not be dragged down from that stance.  It is my hope that he will continue to speak up for the sake of principle and the people, even when I am the one with whom he disagrees, and also that everyone will find a way to return to friendship once more.

He has agreed to take on the position of Finance.  This means that his primary focus will be the budget, but I will also be asking him to work hard in his supervisory capacity to ensure that Talossan merchandise is available once more.  Further, we need to see about building some sustaining donors who can give on a monthly or annual basis to support our small needs, so we can free politics from the shackles of money.  And I am sure he will have other projects of his own -- including a lot of fun, I hope!

My next nominee is someone with whom I have argued more than anyone else in my party, and yet always with a smile on my face.  Because while Tric'hard Lenxheir is a talented man, he lacks the talent to see himself.  He's also part of a demographic that's well-represented in our populace but seldom in our government, and his voice is not just valuable... it's necessary.

Because MC Lenxheir is not an attorney, he will not be tasked with giving me legal advice.  And in anticipation of our rare need for prosecutors or the like, we will appoint a Solicitor-General for that task.  Instead, MC Lenxheir's task as minister will be to look through the law with the eyes of a no-nonsense layperson and point out things that don't make sense or that are confusing.  Some of these things will need fixing.  In other words, he will be the rare Avocat-Xheneral who actually makes some change and reforms things around here.

Talossan law is for everyone, and so everyone should be able to understand it.  And I am grateful to MC Lenxheir for helping us move towards that goal.

At this time, the position of Minister of Defence will be left vacant.  Renewed emphasis will instead be given to the Zuavs and their Captain, with government-wide support for this effort.

Sir X. Pol Briga stands out from among the crowd.  He is a quiz fiend, and he is an ardent patriot for his island province.  He also is distinguished for operating a tiny party alone for many years, focused on provincial issues: the CRO.  While he's moved on, he still remains distinguished for the way he's continued that spirit of service.  Many Talossans know him as our Burgermeister, and now he'll be a worthy representative of our country to the world.

I'm famously skeptical about micronations, which is why I have asked someone with a very different and more open view to take the lead here.  Our focus will be how we can benefit Talossa by engaging with members of the global community, including both macro and micro.  Thank you to MC Briga for being willing to represent the Kingdom of Talossa to the nations of the world.

The Minister of Technology is unusual among our offices, because it requires specific technical knowledge.  Accordingly, it seemed obvious to me to ask one of our most technically accomplished individuals to join the Cabinet in this role: Danihel Txechescu.  He's consistently active and helpful, and he's one of the two wizards that makes our national infrastructure hum and innovate.

S:reu Txechescu has agreed to serve, and even immediately brought an agenda to accomplish: reform of the role itself and a look at how it interacts with its permanent secretaries, changing it to better meet the real needs of the people and the realities of the work.  I am very grateful to him for agreeing to step in, since he's stepped away from politics generally.  He will remain an independent, not a member of the Progressive Alliance.

I already said a lot of nice things about MC Lux, and they're still true... which is why I've asked him to take on two roles!

He has volunteered, in addition to Finance, to be our Minister of Culture.  Some of our priorities for the term are to work to integrate our national language into our lives more, including both text and audio.  Familiarity with the look and sound of our greatest treasure will make people more comfortable with it, and ease entrance into learning.  Further, we will be offering an ambitious language contest -- and we'll invite the outside world to join it.  This will have multiple benefits, including both recruitment and activity.

The precedent of previous Governments is that once a PermSec role is vacated, it legally ceases to exist, and those powers revert to the respective Cabinet Ministers (in this case, Technology and Propaganda.) The PermSecBackEnd and PermSecSocialMedia roles can be re-created later if you like.
