8. Dream On - 2

Well there goes some TMT history. Dream On is the last remaining song* that was first voted on by @Eðo Grischun in the 2009 edition, 17(!!!) years ago, before the multiple rounds format was introducted. It survived 13 editions, until now. The end of quite a run.

With Killer Queen we also lose the second longest remaining song, automatically nominated for the 2013 edition because it was posted in the song club by Hailey Ross (wonder how many people here even know what any of that means anymore or who Hailey Ross is).

Weirdly it made the semifinal only two editions ago and now its eliminated.

Please don't anyone be discouraged if your nominations didn't make it for whatever reason.


It's always gonna be hard for a new nomination to compete with songs already in the list. Personally even when I'm positively surprised by a song I've never heard before it's just hard to rate it against songs I've known and liked for years, but that doesn't mean it can't be a nice discovery. I frequently put new songs I kinda like in my spotify playlist and then later it becomes one of my favourite songs. There were definitely nice discoveries I didn't have points for this year and I'm thankful to whoever nominated them for sharing. I hope others feel the same.

Also there is a playlist with all TMT nominations of all time that I will update with all the new nominations when I have time.




Edit: Also to add to that: of course even for the songs that maybe don't appeal to me as much I'm still glad they were nominated. TMT is better with more diverse songs and styles reflecting different tastes and I'd much rather have more people participating even if that means songs I like get replaced with songs I don't and I don't think I'm the only one who feels that way.

* Actually I have noted recently that due to the tmt electorate shifting many songs I like tend to perform better than a couple years ago. That's nice, but I do sometimes worry about the risk of it becoming a bit stale. I would really love to attract more participants with different tastes so TMT stays interesting (and also keep voters that participated in previous years with clearly different preferences from me interested as well.)

Not a bad score for TMT special considering the low turnout there. For new nominations overall its also more than last year when only 14 out of 50 made it.

2025 TMT20 ROUND 2

Round 2 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 3.

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains from this year: one 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place song from Round 1, and from last year: one 9th or 10th place song from Round 3, one 7th or 8th place song from Round 3, one 6th placed from Round 3 or eliminated semifinalist, one song ranked 11-20, and one song ranked 1-10.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top four songs 4, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly four songs.

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.
