Sir Lüc

Azul,

seeing as there are now presiding officers in place for both Houses of the Ziu, and in my capacity as Deputy Túischac'h, I would like to belatedly kick off preparations for the State Opening of the Ziu.

Unlike the First Clark of the previous term, most MZs have voted already and the slate consists of nonbinding resolutions only, so I would rather start thinking about a November Joint Session now, and leave the State Opening to be strictly about the swearing-in and connected formalities, and (I strongly suggest) some time to debate Hoppered bills face-to-face. This also means we don't strictly need to hold this before the Clark is over.

I have created the following link to track attendance: https://www.when2meet.com/?39113703-8hwkS

Paging ministers, major party leaders & King & Mençei for their availability:

@Baron Alexandreu Davinescu @Miestră Schivă, UrN-GC @Mic'haglh Autófil, O.Be @xpb @Françal I. Lux @Marcel Eðo Pairescu Tafial, UrGP @Danihel Txechescu @þerxh Sant-Enogat @Antaglha Xhenerös Somelieir @King Txec @Crement Itravilatx @Breneir Tzaracomprada @Garth Spencer

  • Of course, if a significant number of crucial attendees cannot make it, there's provisions in place to hold a textual state opening here.
  • Once more, while I don't think it's worthwhile to vote on the Clark, I would encourage people to think about reserving some time for face-to-face debate on their own Hoppered bills, which I think would be more productive and helpful.
  • Also, once this is settled, I would already like to start planning the November Informal Joint Session -- it's Budget month and I would really like to afford the Government and MinFin a proper chance at presenting it.

King Txec

I have marked my availability.

I will say, I do have anxiety about such things so I won't be able to join in this (this is a long term thing, and have mentioned a few times over the years)

But I hope it goes well, and if needed I can send a prepared remark to be read out by someone at the event

That's totally fine. If you (and anyone else) would still like to assist, you are welcome to join with no mic and no camera!

Baron Alexandreu Davinescu

I marked my availability.  I have family coming this weekend and my wife is on a trip, so it won't be a good time for me.  But I'm mostly available the other two weekends.

Looks like we have 7/7 available on Sunday 25 at 21-22 CEST / 3-4 PM TDT! (https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20261025T200000&p1=157&p2=158)

Do those who haven't answered the poll yet think they could attend? Particularly interested in opposition representatives since they have the right to deliver an address after the Speech from the Throne.

Folks, have we nailed down the time for the State Opening? I'm working on the Opposition (extremely small as it is) speech but would like to know more on when we are meeting.

Ah, I see October 25 at 1-2 Pacific Time. Is that confirmed?

Sir Lüc

Nobody else returned the poll since my last message, so it indeed seems like we're going with that time and date.

Sir Lüc

I think we're safe to announce that the State Opening will indeed be next Sunday, October 25th, at 9 PM Central European / 8 PM British / 4 PM Eastern / 3 PM TDT-Central / 1 PM Western / 9 AM NZDT (of Monday 26th). This link is still valid if you want to convert to an arbitrary timezone: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20261025T200000&p1=157&p2=158

At a bare minimum the session will consist of:

  • The Swearing-in of the Seneschal
  • Address from the Government, (delivered by His Majesty King Txec)
  • Rebuttal from the Opposition

and it seems like there's room for more in the allotted hour, such as addresses from other members, Terpelaziuns and, like I mentioned earlier, debating bills in the Hopper. I would be very interested to hear from those who plan to attend if they have any ideas or wishes.

King Txec

Do we have a Zoom link for the State Opening yet?

Thanks

Right, I hoped for some feedback (particularly from the Government, which is the centerpiece of the event), but we're gonna go with that minimal program for now, and leave open the floor after the rebuttal for further comments on the Speech, addresses on other matters, or for members who wish to debate bills in the Hopper.

We will attempt to conduct the State Opening on our own platform: the link will be https://riunetz.talossa.com/StateOpening.

Save the date: Sunday, October 25th, at 9 PM Central European / 8 PM British / 4 PM Eastern / 3 PM TDT-Central / 1 PM Western / 9 AM NZDT (of Monday 26th) - https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20261025T200000&p1=157&p2=158

Everyone is welcome to attend, but MZs are especially encouraged to do so. Tagging MZs: @xpb @Françal I. In honoring the agreement made with the leaders of the former boycott I decline participation in the State Opening. Perhaps the leader of the Independent Greens/Anarchists-Surrealists might be available.
