I have a soft spot for Paradox Entertainment as they are the successor company to the company I worked for for the first four years of my working life, but their games are far too complex for me, I simply do not have the patience to deal with the learning curve. These days I only play role-playing games and board games.

Wait, you design video games?  I don't think I knew that.

What games are you playing now?

On www.youplay.it have been playing Blue Max and Wooden Ships and Iron Men - these are great planned move games adapted from the board versions.

Along with the possible Quiz League, I would be interested in starting a Diplomacy game among current active citizens via the dpjudge.  I will have to delay both until after I return from a trip to Alaska on June 25 (after kicking off the Cézembre elections prior to my departure if there are either no other or multiple other candidates for Le Sénéchal as per https://wittenberg.talossa.com/index.php?topic=825.msg6450#msg6450)

ULTIMA: Quest of the Avatar on my NES emulator.

Oh speaking of Paradox games! Have y'all heard of City Skylines? It's a city management game with the usual complexity of a Paradox game. People have made some pretty cool stuff with it. If anyone wants to build a Talossan City-State, that's your platform

No, the precursor to Paradox Entertainment published tabletop games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Games

D&D 5e mostly. When it comes to boardgames, Terraforming Mars, Star Realms, and Arkham Horror LCG are the ones that most often get to the table.

Nice!  I'd love to hear about your D&D game -- your character if you're playing or your campaign if you're running it.

In my campaign, I started off running the party through Lost Mines of Phandelver, during which they joined the Harpers, and since then they've solved a mystery about missing townsfolk in nearby Triboar (a false hydra!), then uncovered a Zhentarim network, and now they're going to the Underdark to stop a drow invasion.  It's been a fun campaign, starting with a classic module adventure, then turning into a detective story, then a spy story, and now a military story.

I have almost bought Skylines multiple times.  There's a guy on YouTube who does videos about traffic flow design, and YouTube keeps recommending his stuff to me and it's bizarrely interesting.

Oh yeah?  What NES are you playing?  My eldest has been playing a lot of 90s educational games on an emulator I set up on a Raspberry Pi.

Oh yeah, the simulations and all the little things you can do with traffic, zoning, etc. will keep you busy for a long while. Plus, with mods you can download, it can get even more detailed. It is really satisfying though to built a really big city and just sitting there watching it take care of itself—then the city starts to tank for some arcane reason and you're back in it stressing again lol

I didn't even know this was a game.  You simulate operating a prison?
