Quote from: Sir Txec dal Nordselvă, UrB on Yesterday at 11:56:17 AMThis is awesome! Being of Scottish descent, it means tons to me. With your permission, I'd like to also adopt it as the official tartan of my Royal House, being that I am also a proud Maricopan!

Of course you can, I would be incredibly honoured!

My Fellow Maricopans,

It is with great pleasure that I am able to provide you, for the first time in history, as far as I am aware, an official Scottish tartan for use in Talossa!
It only seems fitting that such a historical event coincides with and commemorates another: the impending coronation of one of our very own, @Sir Txec dal Nordselvă, UrB !

This tartan was designed using the red and green of the Bicoloreu as well as the white, orange, and lime green of Maricopa's provincial flag. After some back-and-forth with Register officials, I was able to register the tartan with the official Scottish Register of Tartans as my own personal tartan. This means that I can use it for, and give permission to anyone else to use it as I see fit.

With that being said, I, Carlüs Éovart Vilaçafat, current Premieir of Maricopa, hereby authorize all current and future citizens of The Sovereign Province of Maricopa, the use of my personal tartan as they see fit.
Additionally, I authorize all future Premieirs, while actively in office, the ability to extend the use of my tartan to other, non-Maricopan, Talossan citizens as they deem appropriate.

UPDATE!

So I've hit a snag with registering the tartan with the Scottish Registry, they are saying that I can't register it as a "District" Tartan since Talossa and therefore Maricopa are not "officially recognized."

Lame I know. They're asking if we have a corporation or other business name that we operate under. I didn't think so, but thought I would ask first.

I do have a few more avenues I can take to attempt to get it registered. I'll let you know how it goes.

If worse comes to worst, maybe the Coletx can create a tartan arm to design and register tartans. Just a thought!

Quote from: Breneir Tzaracomprada on October 05, 2024, 02:28:23 PMI am skeptical this will get a high participation rate but it sounds like a good idea. Has there ever been a coordinated effort to expand Talossan vocabulary? We have tens of thousands of words which is good for a conlang but it might be a fun exercise to have a word translation drive to expand the number of Talossan words even higher and improve the translator. AI might have some implications here.

Personally I think, more than words, we need: sayings, colloquialisms, and proverbs.

L.L. Zamenhof felt that these were absolutely necessary to breathe life into a language. Say what you want about Esperanto, it is one of the most successful, well known, and most used conlangs.

You know what, I did consider combining the two by inverting 3A from green field and red cross to red field and green cross.

Well our previous poll ended in a tie, so now this is the tie breaker!

This poll will run for the next 2 weeks.

I have done a lot of brainstorming on this and I have come up with the following top 3, more or less in order or preference:

  • Green Town: The setting of Something Wicked This Way Comes. The first Bradbury novel I ever read. Still one of my favorites and a formative one from my youth.
  • Lakewood: The Lakewood Theatre in Dallas, TX (I don't think it's there anymore) was a formative place in my young adulthood where I learned a love of performance and amateur musical theater.
  • Joyland: The titular setting of the Stephen King novel. Another one of my favorites, and a coming of age story that really hits home for me. I read it every year.

The essence of Talossa summarized in two sentences. Amazing!
