Quote from: þerxh Sant-Enogat on August 23, 2024, 10:28:15 AMDuring my initial interactions, I enjoyed chatting with some of you (who will recognize themselves). I was surprised that it's always the same people who take an interest in newcomers.

About Brooksing, I didn't feel like I was being approached for electoral reasons; I joined the party of those who had interacted with me.

But don't you see, that was exactly the problem? You were being broosked and you didn't even realise it. That's why those people were "taking an interest in you", and in all other new citizens - they were trawling for political advantage. That's what we want to avoid in future.

We are encouraging people to interact with newcomers and then claiming a strategy of implicit broosking when people have done so in the past? I don't think interacting with newcomers is broosking. If we need examples of actual broosking, Miestra, then we can point to posts made by GV, a FreeDem Senator. We do not need to makeup a new category of implicit broosking. I would reiterate that if broosking is a concern then we should discourage obvious, provable examples like what GV did, educate newcomers about the practice AND go back to an apolitical civil servant overseeing the administration of the process with the Minister responsible for formulating the policies to be administered.

I mean, there's no way to stop people lying to and manipulating new citizens for political advantage; but Talossan politics shouldn't be based on "who can get to new citizens first, win their confidence and tell bad stories about their opponents". So the Government's reforms will ensure that new citizens have enough knowledge about Talossa that they can't be easily manipulated.

I completely agree and I, like you I'm sure, have refrained from doing so. The example I point, from your own party, is the only example I can find of direct political campaigning to prospective citizens. This is why we should inform newcomers immediately of what broosking is and why it is discouraged and to report it when encountering it. We suport education on Talossa and broosking. And apoliticization, insofar as possible, of the process itself.

The Government is currently finalising a bill for Immigration reform to be presented to the Hopper, so if anyone has any further brilliant ideas on the subject, now is the time to present them.

Looking forward to seeing what the Government proposes.
