TMT20 ROUND 1 - GROUPS 9 AND 10

Round 1 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 2 (and are given entry into next year's TMT20).

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place song from last year's Round 2, 4-5 new nominations, and 0-1 songs eliminated by random chance in Round 1 last year.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top three songs 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three songs.

GROUP 9
Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist
Blur - Song 2
Bob Segar - Old Time Rock and Roll
Chvrches - The Mother we Share
Crosby, Stills and Nash - Southern Cross
Foghat - Slow Ride
Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score
OneRepublic - Preacher
Tom Waits - God's Away on Business

GROUP 10
Beach Boys - I Get Around
Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started
Clamavi De Profundus - The Song of Durin
Coldplay - Fix You
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Ohio
Donny Benét - Santorini
First Aid Kit - My Silver Lining
Genesis - Turn It On Again
Kurt Schneider, Sam Tsui, Alex G, and Alyson Stoner - I'll Think Of You
Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (Round 2 > other)
- Random chance

Any song eliminated by random chance will be given entry into next year's TMT20.

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

GROUP 9
3 - Bob Segar - Old Time Rock and Roll
2 - Foghat - Slow Ride
1 - Crosby, Stills and Nash - Southern Cross
HM - Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity

Another tough group, in which I was not able to give points to one of my own new nominations.

The Mother We Share is not one of my favorite CHVRCHES songs. I must have forgotten when Clearest Blue was eliminated because I didn't realize this is the only song of theirs in the competition. Remind me next year to show them some love.

GROUP 10
3 - Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started
2 - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Ohio
1 - Beach Boys - I Get Around
HM: Kurt Schneider, Sam Tsui, Alex G, and Alyson Stoner - I'll Think Of You

I too was surprised to find Let's Get It Started at the top of my list.
Sir Ian Plätschisch, UrN, GST

Have to disagree with Ian. There's plenty of Chvrches songs I like, but The Mother We Share is the one that got me addicted and it's still on another level for me. Also sadly I feel a lot of the newer material is just more of the same and not really going anywhere new. Gun or Tether (or Clearest Blue) would definitely get points from me in most groups though.

Group 9:
3: The Mother We Share
2: Ghost Love Score
1: Song 2
HM: Frontier Psychiatrist.
Also sad about not having points left for Virtual Insanity. Bob Segar also a strong new nomination (even though I do not share his nostalgia).

Group 10: I don't even know where to start here. Way too many personal favourites in one group. Choosing between the best of Peter Gabriel and the best of Genesis without Gabriel was particularly difficult.
3: Fix You
2: My Silver Lining
1: Solsbury Hill
Song of Durin, Ohio and obviously Santorini may well have gotten points in a weaker group as well.

Really shouldn't have posted this before listening to How Not to Drown, cause I just did and now I immediately have to eat my words.
