One thing I noticed whilst trawling the wiki was that the Zouaves have insignia for a few ranks, but the ones that exist are not particularly well-identified with their actual rank (what do two gold bars signify?)

As such, I decided to try my hand at a few new insignia for the ranks listed on the wiki.

While the enlisted insignia are not particularly native to Talossa, the officer shoulderboard insignia make up for it by eschewing bars or stars in favor of the acorn, by association with that most fearsome of national animals, the squirrel.

I don't know if I like the green background, but the insignia are nicely done. Before the current iteration of the Zouaves, we had insignia very similar to those you did here. I would add an additional officer rank for the Captain of the Zouaves.

By the way, keep up all the good work you've been doing and you'll be the fastest member of the armed forces to earn promotion from Private to Private First Class.

Before I redo these -- do you have a recommendation for the color to use? I imagine the Zouaves' "current uniform" is a bit...hazy...

I'm trying to remember but I don't recall a specific color assigned to the Zouaves. However, on closer reflection, the green might be a good choice as it is a "military" color. I guess my suggestion would be to make both the insignia of the enlisted and officers the same shade of military green.

While I never implemented this, when I reformed the Zuavs and created the current system, I imagined that their colours would be blue and red, in keeping with their Berber origin.  The French Zuoaves wore a stylized version of a traditional Berber costume, with blue jackets with red trim and red pants.  So blue with red trim would be my advice, but of course the current commander gets to set all of that policy (unless the MinDef overrules him).

The current award design -- as far as it goes -- has one silver bar awarded for PSC, two silver bars for PFC, one gold bar for SPC, and two gold bars for CPL.

I have updated the officer insignia to (a) include a three-acorn insignia for Captain, and (b) use the same shade as the enlisted ranks (I chose to go with the shade the enlisted ranks used because I feel like it's more obviously green; sometimes it can be tough to distinguish on a dark screen background...

Alas, I was updating while you wrote this, so I didn't see it until after I went back and edited the OP.

I had a feeling that was the order the awards on the wiki were in, but it still felt a little odd that we have these higher ranks and no way to display them, hence the above.

Blue and red would be a good combo, would give it a bit more of an obvious gendarmerie vibe (which feels appropriate as that is what I conceive of the Zouaves as being -- that space between military and police).

I never made insignia for the higher ranks because no one achieved that rank during my time running the organization, and no one has been promoted in the years since I handed it off.  I am beyond delighted that it's spinning back up again: the Zuavs was a long-held dream of mine, eliminating a pseudo-military thing that didn't serve Talossa to replace it with one dedicated to a specific thing that we desperately need.

It is entirely up to Txec about what he wants the colors and insignia to be.
