To the Squirrel King of Arms,

On behalf of the Ministry, I humbly come before the College to being the process of creating both the long desired formal trappings of the Ministry as a whole and specifically the Ministry's most prominent division... Els Zuávs da l'Altahál Rexhitál (The Zouaves of the Royal Bodyguard). I formally request the College's assistance, as Minister of Defence, in creating designs of Organizational Coats of Arms for both the Ministry and the Royal Guard.

Additionally, as my colleague from Culture previously requested for their Ministry, I would like the College's assistance on Ministry related "Talossan versions of Letters Patent, State Awards, and other physical forms of the trappings of Monarchy and chivalry" in so creating, designing, and presenting to the Ziu for formal adoption those things that serve to recognize serving members of the Ministry (both Military & Civilian) commitment and dedication to the Kingdom... so that these might be presented to the Ziu to be adopted for formal usage within the Kingdom. This will include military & civil service awards, Letters Patent of Enlistment & Commission, and heraldic assistance with insignia for service awards & ranks.

I understand this will be a no doubt daunting effort on behalf of both the Ministry and the College, but I will work diligently with your support to making these goals a reality.

Respectfully,

General Þon Txoteu É. Davinescu, O.SPM
La Ministrà dal Zefençù/Minister of Defence
The Most Honourable General Txoteu É. Davinescu, O.SPM

Senator for Maricopa, Kingdom of Talossa

Baron Alexandreu Davinescu

The Coletx is in receipt of your excellent request, and I thank you for it on behalf of the Dean and Squirrel King.

I believe that the Capitan of the Zuavs has already requested and received a design for that organization, which will be granted a month from now; presumably you were unaware of this, so I'd ask you to please review it (on the associated thread in this forum) and ensure that it is acceptable to you, as well.

Your ministry was already granted an achievement, many years ago.  It features a caltrop on the bicoloreu.  It can be seen on the wiki at present on the page for your ministry.

This leaves outstanding your requests for assistance with rank insignia, letters patent for enlistment and commission, and awards.

I will myself be happy to work on letters patent, and accordingly I assign that to myself on behalf of the Dean.

I believe the Oblivious Auditing Fellow already took a good crack at the rank insignia, so I will ask him to continue those efforts, if he is agreeable.  I'd recommend consulting with the Rogue Elephant Herald, as well, who is both an experienced member of this Coletx held in great esteem and the Capitan of the Zuavs, the only operable branch of our military.

For awards, I think it might be a good idea to hold off on assigning such work until we have a better idea of the scope of the task -- do you have a list of the awards, the circumstances under which they're granted, and some idea of the form they should take?

Begging the Noir Raven Herald's pardon, but I do believe that was myself that drafted a design for new rank insignia (with a second set drafted by Dr. Montagnha). Of course, I was the Oblivious Auditing Fellow at the time...

You are quite right, and that is what I was thinking of. Please accept my apologies, and my recommendation that you continue that work if you are willing.

No offense meant, no offense taken -- simply clarifying! I would be honored to continue the process already begun.

I am aware of that achievement. My thoughts were more along the lines of something like this:

Estimat Xheneral,

What are your thoughts on the achievement that will soon be granted to the Zouavs? I'm presuming, though I'm of course not sure, that the design idea you posted in this thread is intended for the entire defense ministry, not just a subsidiary branch such as the Zouavs.

Rouge Elephant Herald,

I love the one presented for the Zouavs! The one above is specifically for the MoD as a whole.

I am aware of that achievement. My thoughts were more along the lines of something like this:

While I can look up the original grants and determine if there were any additional elements to the achievement, such as a girdle or supporters, as a general rule the Coletx does not request new achievements when a person or organization has already been granted one by His Majesty. I sought last year for a slight modification to my existing achievement, for example, and I was flatly denied.

There are a number of reasons for this rule. The throne is the font of honours, and it grants honourable achievements intended to last a lifetime - rather than shifting with tastes and trends.

In the interests of being helpful and constructive, I will note that the emblem of your ministry is exceedingly simple: a caltrops. The ministry may adopt badges incorporating this design in any number of ways for its officers or subsidiaries and still remain both recognizable and respectful of the original grant. You could adopt as the personal badge of your specific office, for example, a caltrops surmounted by swords and anchors and eagles and banners and things. That badge would represent you as the minister, while the ministry would itself retain its original achievement.
