Sadly I am not reading anything right now. I was in the middle of rereading my favorite series of books, The Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan when the TV version was released on Amazon Prime. I was very much looking forward to the shows release but I was so disappointed that I have now lost interest in reading the books. I understand that due to time constraints and costs for special effects some changes must be made but...they skipped major portions of the books, changed the ages of the characters (the first few books are a coming of age story), left out some major characters and generally left me hating the series. On the other hand...I still like whiskey! Currently my favorites are 18 year old Chivas Regal and Angel's Envy!

I've never read the books, even though I've heard a lot about them over the years.  They've always been on my to-do list!  One of these days, I'll get around to it.  My "to read" stack is remarkably high right now.

I'm with you on the mile-high reading list Baron and King John. Right now if I can't use Audible to read SciFi books while driving to and from work, reading for pleasure doesn't get done.

I want to read the Wheel of Time books but I also want to go back and re-read the LOTR and Game of Thrones books also. Too much to read and not enough hours!

I'm reading Ron chernow's Grant right now, then I'm going to get back to reading Ian Banks' Culture series. But it's slow going! Little kids make it hard.

LOTR is where I cut my teeth with fantasy fiction...well actually it was The Hobbit in high school. I love those books and I thought they did a reasonably good job with the movies (although they cut my favorite character out completely). The Wheel Of Time books are a fantastic read just don't watch the TV series first because it will confuse the crap out of you LOL I enjoyed A Song Of Ice And Fire and I must admit I am curious to see what George R.R. Martin will do with the series as the TV show went beyond where he left off with the books.

This may straddle the line between science fiction and fantasy but have you all heard of a couple of books from Tony Daniel called Metaplanetary and Superliminal? Daniels had initially planned a trilogy but, it has now been over a decade, sadly with no third book due to various issues.

The second book features a section which actually caused me to laugh out loud which is not common when I am reading. And a sentient Jeep...

I don't think I've ever heard of Tony Daniel, but that's hardly surprising given the tremendous depth and breadth of the literary world.

Duke John

I read The Eye of the World once, decades ago, and I liked it OK, but not well enough to go on with a long series of 1000-page books.  The Hobbit and LOTR, of course, many times beginning in 1967 or 1968.  George R. R. Martin never disappoints, except that he can't seem to get the Ice and Fire series done!  (Someone needs to kidnap him and lock him up with a typewriter and a ton of paper.)  I always like Lois McMaster Bujold, and her current series about Penric and Desdemona is very well worth reading, about a young man who accidentally "acquires" a demon (and with the demon, magical powers), and their subsequent adventures, political magical and romantic.  Great stuff.

Martin tweeted last week that he'd wrapped up the whole of one viewpoint character and almost all of another, so Winds of Winter might just be fast enough to beat the Grim Reaper, if we're lucky.
