A CALL TO ARMS

Whereas, the president of Russia has repeatedly thumbed his nose at international law, and
Whereas, Russia has illegally annexed 5 regions of the sovereign nation of Ukraine, and
Whereas, the Ukrainian people have shown their ability to defend their borders, and
Whereas, the Ukrainian people have shown their desire to remain free of Russian dictatorship, and
Whereas, the Ziu has already passed a Sense of the Ziu condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine which Russia has ignored.

Therefore, be it resolved, that the Ziu calls upon the Seneschal to declare that a state of war exists between the Kingdom of Talossa and the Russia Federation.

Let us stand with the brave people of Ukraine in their ongoing fight for freedom!

I'll have to consult the new Defense Minister, but I'm pretty sure we have no capacity to wage war  ::)

We do have the ability to declare war though

@Ian Plätschisch  per OrgLaw Article VI section 3 The Seneschál has duties of the State. He may advise the King to dissolve the Cosâ and to appoint and remove members of the Cabinet, and such advice to the King shall not be refused.  HE MAY ALSO DECLARE WAR and write treaties with the approval of the Ziu, expedite the Ziu's consideration of legislation, and issue Prime Dictates.

Yep, I can "declare" war, but what is the point? It accomplishes nothing except make us look a bit silly. It definitely doesn't give Putin one bit of deterrence.

Using that sort of logic then absolutely nothing we do here means anything. We claim territory on three different continents with no way of enforcing said claim, we have our corts but no way to enforce the corts rulings short of banishing citizens from the website. I can tell you for a fact that many people think we are a joke simply for participating in this experiment. I believe in Talossa and I believe that we can in some small way influence the "real world" as we do have citizens who are from countries around the world including I believe BOTH Ukraine and Russia!

Definitely not; the laws and court decisions we make in Talossa have real meaning within Talossa, which is a real community we all care about. Beyond politics, the social aspects are real as well. We can even have a real impact on the outside world; as Finance Minister last term I held a fundraising drive for the Red Cross back in February when the Ukraine conflict started (or just ask Breneir about BHAID).

Declaring war on Russia, on the other hand, is not real in any way. The fact that there are Talossans who are also Russians just makes it worse; we would be pointlessly exiling them for decisions they have nothing to do with.

I am going through with this process. I am also aware that it will likely be voted down. I just hope that it gets voted down because people disagree with it and not just because they are afraid it will make them look silly.

I might consider war if it means we actually did something. Like, economic sanctions, or spending Royal Treasury funds to buy Ukraine some more drones or some such. Does anyone actually want to do that?

I am in no way in favour of just declaring war as a "virtue signal" with no positive outcome. King Robert I declared war on Serbia in 1999 and everyone just laughed at him - worse still, he used it as a way to bash people who voted against it as being traitorous.

Let me also remind everyone that some Talossans are actually Russian citizens. Will doing this get them in bad with State enforcement agencies, of the kind who push you out windows or put polonium in your tea?

I know sanctions of any kind will not truly have any effect on Russia but if that is the course you think we should take in the war then I would fully support that as obviously our military is not strong enough to have any effect...i mean hell the actual war would probably be over by the time our navy even got there LOL I feel bad for our Russian citizens and I truly hope they, like thousands of others in Russia managed to get out of the country rather than be forced into fighting an unjust war. With that being said I believe we also have at least one citizen who is from Ukraine do we abandon that person?

Now if we wanted to do something actually funny, we would recognize the Czech annexation of Kaliningrad

I hadn't heard about that but I love it...I'm sure the people living there "voted" in favor of it in a referendum LOL

Hmm... If I get a spare moment this week (about to go into Tech), my office might just write an official letter of congratulations to Pres. Zeman on the new acquisition.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be happy to throw its "invincible moral support" behind the Czechs' recent expansion. :P
