VOTING POSTPONED BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS BROKENVOTING MAY NOW COMMENCE

Round 1 of the Talossan Music Top Classical music to have dinner to in the last day of Earth - 2022!

Many thanks to everyone who nominated songs. Of course people who did not so are still very welcome to participate

Before we start, a quick note on tactical voting
Tactical voting in this case refers to either giving more points than you would normally have to a song because it would make the difference between going through or getting eliminated OR giving fewer points than you would normally have to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be: do not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

So now to the fun part:

ROUND 1: Five groups total. Two groups simultaneously. 5 songs per group. Best 2 go through to the final.

GIVE 3,2,1 points!
Voting will take 96 hours (4 days). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.
You must give points to no more or no fewer than 3 songs per group.
You may vote on one or both groups.

People who didn't get around to nominating are also very much encouraged to participate during the voting rounds.

Argh, its like the board is actively trying to troll me. Everytime I try to modify the post all the class=link bits disappear and it shows everything as videos, and then when I restore it it removes one group.

I give up. Im going to sleep. The pieces it currently lists arent even supposed to be in one group. Voting is postponed until this is fixed.

"Fanfare for the Common Man" is a splendid - and deep - work whose content overwhelms its title... except that the title itself elevates the common man to his greater level.

Barber's Adagio - if performed well, and not with soupy over-sentimentality - can elicit real tears.

I play "Nimrod" on the organ at church, from time to time. It's not really great music, but not bad. I was very tempted to choose the Veneziano instead, but stuck with the piece I know better (not necessarily the right way to make a decision!)

The second group are all good - apart from putting the Bach first (well, I would, wouldn't I!) the other pieces are all of equally high quality.
