The hunt for eternal glory, fame, and fortune upon the most illustrious of sporting pitches the world 'round begins tonight! Seven teams will be competing for the three open spots in the Talossan Football Association for the 2023 season, and six of those begin their hunt today! Allow me to take a moment and give a little peek behind the curtain here: the scorinator program uses a skill value for each participating team, anywhere from 0 to 1. Those are put in by myself, but I use a little fancy math and an RNG to arrive at the value for each team (and also set it so that it cannot output a skill value less than 0.65 to try and keep games at least reasonably competitive). Last year, I put each team into the algorithm I created with the same "input" level of skill, so that it would be truly random which teams had more skill than others -- only a few different values emerged, but it should be noted that the two finalists were among teams with the lowest of the values the formula produced. This year, an additional factor was considered: where your team finished last year. Teams with a better finishing position were more likely to see their skill value decrease this year, and those who finished lower were more likely to see their skill increase -- and both of these by a larger degree the further to either extreme they finished. As a result, Cjovani actually saw their skill drop to the 0.65 minimum -- which is exactly where all the other new teams are starting at, meaning we have seven teams with identical skill values in this qualification pool.

This is all a very long-winded way of saying that the math will almost certainly lead towards quite a few 3-3 records, so teams near the bottom should see their fortunes reverse soon -- and teams near the top shouldn't feel too comfortable...

Also noteworthy (perhaps more so, if you ask the Avocat-Xheneral) is the qualification of the Justice Ministry's team to this year's regular season. However, no teams are yet eliminated; with six teams fighting for the two remaining spots, it's sure to be a down-to-the-wire finish!
