All these R2 groups kinda feel strong but balanced. Even the R1 groups were mostly like that, with the exception of a couple of weak groups. I'm kinda surprised at the absence of true stacks so far (inb4 one of the remaining R2 groups proves me wrong). Looking at how songs are laid out in pools, though, I think the likelihood of any of the remaining group having more than four personal favourites is kinda low, so luckily I don't think I'll have to leave further must-votes at 0.

2023 TMT20 ROUND 2

Round 2 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 3.

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place song from Round 1, 2-3 songs eliminated in Round 3 last year, 0-1 songs eliminated in Round 4 last year, 1 song ranked between 11-20 last year, and 1 song ranked between 1-10 last year.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top four songs 4, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three or four songs (awarding the 1-point vote is optional).

- Number of voters giving 4 points

- Last year's result (1 > 2 > ... > 20 > Round 4 > Round 3 > Round 2 > other)
- PPV in Round 1 (if applicable)
- Random chance

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

why did i even say that

group 7 is so massive a stack they had to bring in a forklift to carry it, and group 8 is so weak that it basically guarantees a similar (but likely not as massive) stack in either of the remaining groups :(

Group 7...it hurt to choose one over the other. And then choose yet another over the first choice. For group 8 I contemplated just awarding points to three, and I felt even that was stretching it, but rules are rules.

Talossa-related trivia: I was given the Nickelback album "Silver Side Up" by a citizen residing in Canada, most likely in 2001, because a record store clerk recommended it as it was "popular". I don't remember who gave it to me, but I have it on a shelf somewhere. Could be because I distributed mix tapes with the name "Back Page Tape" at the time, and I got something in return. it's long ago and I'm old, so I don't remember, ok? 😂 I can't really claim to have listened to it since 2001 though.
