Putting My Political Capital Where My Mouth Is

Azul all,

This was meant to be announced in a much longer post (which is still going to come soon), but I'm announcing it now because there is a lot of talk today about the complete fecklessness of opposition parties in Talossa.

AMP has achieved most of its legislative goals and I'm happy to convert it into a think tank focusing on reducing bureaucracy and generating lasting activity. Hopefully more people can get involved from across the political spectrum.

This doesn't mean I'm retiring from politics.

Instead, it's time for a competent opposition party which will provide a legitimate alternative to the Free Democrats and other parties quite friendly to the abolition of the Senate, the abolition of the provinces, removing all of the King's powers, etc. This was one of my intentions when I founded AMP, but it didn't quite work because our manifesto was too similar to theirs to really oppose them.

The RUMP is dead. The ZPT was an unmitigated disaster which, as the Seneschal pointed out, tossed conservative votes right into the circular file. I admit I do not really have my conservative Bone Fides in order, but I do have my "following through on my political initiatives" and my "not being a Free Democrat" Bone Fides in order, so that will have to do.

Introducing the
League of Centre Conservatives

I use "League" on purpose: we don't have to agree on everything, just that we generally like long-standing Talossan institutions and that we shouldn't deprive the Government parties of a good donnybrook now and again.

If you've felt unrepresented by all the parties recently, please try us on for size.

I have a lot of respect for the Seneschal, and I'm not founding this party just to stick it to her and her FreeDem pals. But I think she'd be the first to admit that all of Talossan politics will be better if citizens who are on the conservative side, especially those who don't have the time to speak their peace against "the establishment" (which I admit has included me for the past several years) themselves, have a good place to go.

Get in touch if you're interested in holding Cosa seats in the 55th Ziu.

Being Leader of the Opposition interests me a lot more than a third term as Distain, and (with respect to the NPW) I'm looking forward to it.

I heartily endorse this venture. As I was just saying to AD, we need a party which strongly represents Talossa's monarchists/conservatives. I look forward to an election campaign where two or more different visions and programmes for Talossa's future are put forward and debated. The current governing coalition will thus amiably divorce.
