Grült méirci, estimat Secretár.

¡Estimadas es estimats Democrätsen Livereschti!

As Party President, I am laying a single item on the agenda for this Party Convention: the following motion.

Quote
  • That this Convention of the Free Democrats of Talossa hereby endorses the formation of a new party, provisionally named l'Uniun dels Reformistaes Livereschti (URL) whose membership shall be that of the Free Democrats combined with the membership of el Partì da Reformaziun (PdR).
  • That the provisional Constitution of the URL shall be as provided in this text, with the provision that this text may be amended by the first Convention of the URL.
  • That upon passage of this motion, and upon passage of an equivalent motion by the PdR Convention, the Free Democrats of Talossa shall cease to exist; this convention shall be adjourned and instantly reconvene as the first Convention of the URL, with the addition of all PdR members. Miestra Schiva will be provisional chair of this Convention.
  • That the first Convention of the URL, in addition to the other tasks mandated by the provisional Constitution, shall adopt a political Program for the new party.

Under Constitution article V, this will require affirmative support of two-thirds of those voting.

There is no firm deadline for this debate/vote, given that the PdR will have their schedule too and there's no point going too far in advance of them, and given that this is pretty irrevocable and I want everyone who wants to to have their say.

Once I call a vote, again under Constitution V, you will have three days / 72 hours.

Questions? Comments? Suggested amendments? Alternative motions?

I would like to propose, that should the above motion fails, we hold a vote on whether or not, with the state of the party right now, we should dissolve the party under the rules of our constitution, or if we should continue.

@mpf would you like to introduce this proposed amendment now? Or introduce it to the merger convention? I would suggest the latter, because if we amend the provisional Constitution now, the PdR will have to make the same amendment, which may get annoying

Quote from: mpf on July 09, 2025, 06:30:44 AMI personally think that Senats candidates should be selected as follows, if there is more than one candidate:

50% of the vote is by members of the party within the province, and 50% of the vote is from members outside of the province.

Senators represent a province, sure, but they are also important safeguards for the Cosa.

Let's say that there are 3 members of the party in the province, and two of them are in a sort of fringe sub-branch. They propose one of them, while the party backs another.

They would get 2/3 in the province, which is 67%, but the rest of the party all vote for the other member (who has 1/3).

2/3 + 0   = 33.5% of the total vote
1/3 + 100 = 66.5% of the total vote.

The province still has a say, they are 50% of the vote, but that way, the party can make sure that the backed senate candidates trully represent the party.
