I used to play D&D paper and dice game, then i graduated to World of Warcraft online but that got too expensive for me, so i tried Civilization VI because a friend got me a free copy, couldn't play online version but that was ok since i am a bit of a loner anyway, when i got a new computer i lost that game and sadly my friend who got me free games passed away (covid) so i tried a few free online games and i found out i am not smart enough to play games against other people so now i don't play any games.

D&D isn't competitive, and it's still around :)

I have been playing a fair bit of prison architect.... or as I call it "2020 simulator"...Haha Corona humour xD
I didn't even know this was a game.  You simulate operating a prison?
building and managing a prison, yes. It's also a paradox game.

Been playing a lot of Total War Shogun 2 lately. Haven't played that game in so long, but can't beat the battle simulations! I'm excited for Warhammer 3

I haven't been playing a game recently but I have been watching some gameplay of Stellaris by a group called The Templin Institute. Is anyone familiar with them?

I used to love Rome: Total War.  That's one of those games that I really enjoy, even though I am terrible at it (I am generally pretty terrible at video games, though).  Does the Shogun one have a lot of resource management, or is it focused on the battles entirely?

Umm I'd say it's about the same but Shogun 2 still maintains that old Total War play mechanics. I do focus more on battles on that though. It's a smaller map since it's just Japan. I'm going through this Japanese history craze right now and these kind of games just feed on my obsession!

Quote from: Ian Plätschisch on May 23, 2021, 01:45:16 PMI started playing Minecraft again a few days ago (on PC this time; before I had never played anything except pocket edition).
I honestly believe Minecraft is the best videogame of the last 20 years. A postmodern approach to the Sandbox genre, a philosophical statement even.

Quote from: GV on May 24, 2021, 06:29:23 PMI am addicted to the idle/incremental genre - I never should have started Cookie Clicker back in '13.

I eschew shoot-em-ups.  My dexterity is awful, and I hate shooting stuff in a 'realistic setting'.  Had a Windows machine, I'd be online playing Age of Empires 2 until daybreak most nights.

In about 2007 through ca. 2012-ish, I was somewhat big into WoW.  I was never able to get into raiding, but had some amazing times.

I love anything empire-building/city-management.

Nice! I play Runescape (now Oldschool Runescape) since 2006, so I understand what you mean.
Age of Empires II Handbook is what I read before going to bed everyday from 2001-2003. I have over 300 hours on Steam between regular and HD editions. I loove AoE2.

Quote from: Françal I. Lux on May 26, 2021, 05:48:39 PMOh speaking of Paradox games! Have y'all heard of City Skylines? It's a city management game with the usual complexity of a Paradox game. People have made some pretty cool stuff with it. If anyone wants to build a Talossan City-State, that's your platform
I played SimCity in NES, then 3000 and then SimCity4. I found Skylines to be too complicated because I am so very used to the SimCity franchise. I am playing SimCity4 in 2023 and I have Skylines on Steam but never really gave it a try. I will put in my bucket list.

Playing against people online is never fun. Specially if, as you said, you're a loner. I can get you a direct link to CiV-IV/Civ-V if you'd want (:

Minecraft:
Starting a Town with your buddy and having a "neighbor" town 3 minutes across the forest with some other friends and making a railroad system to send stuff to each other everynight while all of you go to sleep to skip the night is a very soothing feeling.

I rememberd I tried to do an economic system simulator with my friends before they all got tired of it and started using cheats.

Age of Empires 2

It was my first approach to real time strategy games. I've always been a very fast typer so I had my shortcuts mastered. I remember the only time my friends could beat me was when they all forget about their own towns and came to my town and started to build 4 towers, I managed to destroy 1 but no one can fight 4 towers in the first 5 minutes of the game. That was my first ragequit haha.

Sims - SimCity

I have a soft spot for Maxis Games.

Mound and Blade (Warband - Bannerlord)

For me, this was the ultimate strategic sandbox game. You're just you, there are a lot of Factions you can join, if you play your cards right, travel behind other Lords, gather an army and start working around, you can get yourself a Town, granted by a King or taken by force to the weakest faction so you can stand the backlash. Traveling around, swapping items and making money, hiring mercenaries and making people join your cause was fun.

Civilization.
I tried Civilization once and got my ass kicked by Ghandi so that was it for me.

Now I'm trying to finish Cuphead, finally.

As a Skyrim Enjoyer, I have to vehemently disagree with this statement.

Have you considered going up to level 50?
It's very hard! I need to catch 5 legendaries to achieve level 44 but even tho I have over 100, I cannot catch a lot of legendaries these days, people stopped playing and fighting them alone isn't very wise.
